Anyone Out There Play With Toluene?
Anyone out there willing to admit that they use toluene? I have read a lot about its use lately, and finally had the urge to try it. Used some in my last fill up, and it produced GREAT results. Anyone else?
Here's a link if you don't know what toluene is yet:

I've tried it before in the Impala (and in that case, it SLOWED DOWN the car because I wasn't pinging anyways) and a buddy who used to spray N2O on his Impala used it all the time (got his 4300lb boat down to the low 12s WITHOUT taking off the valvecovers!).
Basically, it works although you want to mix it with some Xylene and lubrication (i.e. ATF) to avoid washing the oil off your cylinders. BE CAREFUL using this stuff, DO NOT get it on your skin! It soaks thru and gets absorbed into the bloodstream almost immediately, and is not good for you! ALWAYS use gloves when handling the stuff.
Check THIS LINK from the Turbo Buick World on some octane boost homebrewing
And also from that website, what is basically a Toluene FAQ

I also DID get some on my skin when pouring it, and it dried up my hands instantly. I WILL wear gloves next time.
I took about 10 miles to actually feel results, but the car seems to be a little more peppy off the start. And cruising anywhere above 45mph or more, the car just purr's. It's liking this higher octane rating.

Toluene is REALLY toxic stuff, be very careful, major mutagenic carcinogen. It will also eat anything it comes in contact with, but it's relatively cheap at a paint store.
I used to mix 2 gallons to a tank....something like 94 Octane. It is rough on the fuel filter and rubber fittings. Like Impala said, I am told that if you add ATF it helps take the edge off.

A cool thing about our cars is that they respond to better gas, most cars don't.

5 gallons of the stuff sells for around 30 bucks at Sherman WIlliams. CARCENEGEON (Spelling).
You can run up to 30%. You could run more, but then you are going to have problems getting the gas to ignite.
I believe that Toulene is 114 octane. Xylene is 116. I used to run %30 Xylene and can be found at the same paint stores.
The F1 cars back in the 80's used to run around like 75PSI of boost and like 80% toulene.
You can use ATF, Marvel Mystery Oil, or 2 stroke oil. I used to mix in a gallon of diesel to a 10 gallon batch. Just as a seal/hose/top end lube as this stuff is a harsh stripper.
2 gallons of Toulene:13 gallons of CA 91(15%) is 94.06 octane. Not bad for a streed blend.
Does anybody know where to get this stuff in 55 galon drums? Cheap? 1 gallon at Home Depot (Or lowes) is damn $10. That is just too much.

The guy who showed me how to do it had a 55 gal drum and I am certain that he got it at a chemical supply place in Emeryville. Look in the yellow pages and call, I am certain it was a chemical supply and not a paint supply. I think he told me he paid a little over $2/gallon...this was last summer.
Hope this helps
You can try CHIRON chemical supply..that is one that I know of.
