Car Info: You guys mad.
So lemme see if I have this correct.....
- SOA says its NOT a SMOG part
- If it's taken off you fail smog

-_-

Someone should go to Subaru, get a printed statement that says it's not a smog part, and go try and pass a test.

I don't know how SOA gets away with saying these parts are NOT part of the emissions system. When its sole purpose is to inject air into the heads, which goes immediately into the exhaust ports, which dumps onto the catalytic converter(s) to get them to lite off, thus reducing "pollutants" and having it burn cleaner faster...

This should be backed by the 100k mile emissions warranty, if you ask me.

Our customer yesterday just filed a federal complaint...

I can't wait to be screwed over when this fails in my car. Nearing 90k miles.

Doesn't mean you will for sure have an issue. I truly believe poor design and climate conditions of where you live play a role in who it affects most. I have yet to hear from anyone in Arizona (super hot and dry most often) have any issues. Most all our cases have been folks who live on/near the coast and/or inland with lots of dew in the am.

I can only speak of our experiences from our shop....but sharing for the benefit of others. In 7 months we have done 4 of these jobs and I've taken at min a dozen calls relating to the issue.

Ah yes, my friend's went out at ~45k miles. His car originally came from Ohio. Maybe I will get lucky, as my car hasn't even left the state before.

I can't say we've seen this as an epidemic and we see it all the time but its been enough to say, this is an issue and when dissecting the parts you can see the chain of events (like we posted before).

Its a real crummy design. All the cars we've seen this on have been between 2006 (first year of these) and 2008, all between 61k - 76k miles.

I think the reason we personally haven't seen 09+ is based on mileage. Most those year cars are just now starting to get in the 60k+ mileage range.

Is this something someone with a 2006 STI should/would have to worry about?

These failenoids cost $239.04 each for a 2006 wrx. Can I do something ghetto like pull it out weld it closed and put it back on.

I guess the other way to go is to buy the replacements, and swap them with block off plates when smog comes, I wouldn't want to replace this in my car multiple times thats for sure.

The factory OEM solenoids are way more than that
