And yeah, the judge will certainly give two ****s that they were heading to a photoshoot I always have my camera gear with me, can I double the speed limit wherever I feel like it too?
If we all bring our cameras together, do we get to like, triple the speed limit?

Yup I agree op shouldnt have been speeding that much if any at all but i can kinda understand since the road looks straight and speedable lol i kinda find myself going too fast sometimes on roads like that. I think its not right to go 70 in a 35 but he needs some advice on the ticket and im just trying to put what i think may help

I think a=l*c

Where a=acceptable speed limit, c=camera(s), and l=posted speed limit.

Choices have consequences, and this is the consequence of his choice. Plain and simple.

So if we bring 5 cameras and drive in a 15mph school zone, it would be acceptable to be driving at 75mph!

OP - you are another reason why Subaru WRXs/STIs are becoming new Honda Civics / Acura Integras. Thanks a lot (sarcasm).
Now watch every cop pulling us over just because...because some asshat decided to double+ speed limit

75+ in 35 zone?! That is STUPID!

I am glad you got a ticket, so you don't keep doing that untill you hurt someone. Just think if someone was walking on the sidewalk trip and fell infront of you. <sigh>

The punishment for 23109a:

24hrs-90 days in jail
AND/OR
$355-$1000 fine (not including court fees)
40 hours community service
MAY order a license suspension for 90-180 days

And as others have mentioned, 23109.2 authorizes a 30 day impound for anyone engaged in Reckless driving, street racing, or exhibition of speed. Also dunno how stock your car is, but a vehicle inspection could have also sent you to the BAR for a smog ticket, depending on your mods (if any).

The officer had a few options, which in all honesty he probably chose the best one for his own case
23103, reckless driving: Willfully going DOUBLE the speed limit is definitely driving with wanton disregard for public safety, however depending on the day/time/conditions, it could be harder to argue (If nobody else was on the road)
23109c, exhibition of speed: I'd say going double the limit with your friends is trying to show off how fast your car can go. Its the same as doing donuts in an empty parking lot.
23109a, street racing: As others have said, two cars going at double the limit down an abandoned two lane road, appearing to jockey for position would definitely look like a street race to me. Perception is all the officer needs when it comes to street racing.

So consider yourself lucky and bend over for the judge. Be happy if you get to keep your license.

The only advice he needs is to sell his car, hand in his lisence, and drink a gallon of bleach.
