4th wall
blades242
Good catch and good question!
4th wall is for a later design.
some people argue that you aren't in your car to idle, so why bother with worrying about heating up the IC for a minute or so? The heat rising is about 140 to 175 degrees. The ambient air we measured entering the IC at idle on a normal engine ranges from 90-135 degrees. Does it matter? You make the decision?
Others argue that it will heat up in traffic b/c these are daily drivers. Racers, well, they don't care as long as they on the track moving, so why bother with weight and added cost?
When you are at speed, the air is reversing and not an issue.
The 4th wall will be a later design for those who want everything and are concerned about heating up the IC at idle.

contact me offline to discuss. I want to make it right.
But,
I honestly don't understand how you got rattles in your car. This thing is 16 ga Steel man! And with that bolt, it shouldn't clang against anything unless you've got installed at an angle. (where it may hit the metal turbo return line. As for it burning something or getting too hot - there are no wires or cables or hoses for it to hit or melt.
Send me an email: Jeremyw@speedmonkee.com
or pics.
BTW, its the first of anyone having an issue with this shield. Appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

I ordered the standard shield and expect it to arrive shortly.
Question: If the stock scoop is designed to allow the rising hot air to escape while idling and to force cool air down at speed, won't the shield inhibit this performance design?
I understand that the shield will keep heat away from the TMIC, but doesn't that heat have to go somewhere else into the engine bay? Does it just go around the heat shield but still make it to the scoop? Same for cooler air when coming in while driving?
Also, if I cut the stock heat shield (I will have the 4" bellmouth TurboXS downpipe) and get the turbo shield back on, should I still use this shield?
Curious before I install.

Just received my shield!
I think after looking at it in hand, I may have answered my questions above. I do not think this will fit if the stock shield is present. Correct?
Also, this shield seems to be a much thicker, higher-quality steel so would have to be better than the stock heat shield.
I felt the intercooler on the turbo side and is is MUCH hotter than the driver side so this shield HAS TO BE BETTER than the stock shield. The stock shield just isn't doing its job, IMO.
Well it is going to be a few weeks before I put the new exhaust on and this shield but I will post pics here as soon as it is on. I promise!
If TurboXS had downpipes in the last two weeks, this would be installed right now. Still waiting for shipment.

Shield
Link_courses,
Yes, you are right. Its designed to replace the stocker for aftermarket DP installations like the TXS. So, when you remove your stock DP, u will most likely lose the stock heatshield.
Please Contact me directly should you have any questions.
I've just sent you an invitation for instructions - please look for it and let me know when you get them.
thanks,
Jeremy

feeling neglected here... am i the only one here on the planet with an sti setup interested in this? someone please petition for an sti chimney version
i do not know if this has been discussed before but... in early versions of wrx's overseas (ver1/2 i think?) they used to have a chimney that was attached to the underside of the splitter in the same place the of the exhuast grille we have on ours right now. when u closed the hood it went down towards the turbo, but i'm not certain if it connected to the shield or not. i wish i had a scanner because i'm looking at it right now in an old options magazine...

STI
Hi ben,
I hear what you are saying. Its just a question of time....
At the moment, not many STI's are on the road. Demand is not there either. We are just a small humble shop trying to keep up with the big guys. If a customer comes to us with an STI and is willing to do the fitment, then we'd be happy to do a prototype for you. however, I haven't seen one STI come to me locally in San Diego that wants one. So, help me spread the word!
thanks,
Jeremy

i would drop by after work if i could but it's not exactly as if u were down the street from me
maybe u could move?
anyway... i was kicking the idea around of sending u dimensions of the sti tmic and somehow have u cut down the chimney accordingly... or is it something i can do myself without butchering it?

WIthout the car, we could not guarantee fitment. Something we're particularly picky about.
We'd really need the car to make sure it wouldn't rattle or impede any parts of the hood when you lowered it. Its tricky b/c these parts are laser cut to spec and if it doesn't fit for your car, you'd have to hack the chimney to size (or even worse extend it) and I don't think you'd want to bend the lips for the insulation seals.
In other words, it would be involved.
sorry,
Jeremy
