chimney
actually, no it won't block anything. It uses the grate thats on the left hand side of the scoop to pass air through. The scoop over-extends the TMIC - so we have space to pop in a chimney for venting purposes. My engineer says this is a good way to keep heat as much heat out of the engine bay. Similar to what they do in some race cars with high heat areas - besides using thermal wraps on headers, etc.

Temps so far
I just got a PRO TEK temp probe and took some initial measurements with it. Degree of accuracy is within + or - 5 degrees.
Measurements were taken at the intercooler cooling fins for both tests at the same spots around the entire cooling surface. Engine Hood was kept down for most accurate readings. Before heatshield, temp is 150 at its highest that I recorded. Ranged from 125 to 150 for most of the time. Temp outside I was standing was 75F.
With the heat shield on, temps ranged from the 85-115F.
Temps at the tranny were very difficult to measure. Probe does not reach very easily down there. Cannot provide accurate data at this time. We don't honestly feel that this will be a problem - since heat rises. It will be kept at the heatshield and gradually dissipate over time. These measurements were made with the stock heatshield without any thermal insulation barrier. Also, we've checked with several people regarding the rubber lines - including some race car mechanics and engineers - that some of you had concerns about with the shields trapping in heat: all the replies came back with the same answer - you should have no problems whatsoever.
You can draw your own conclusions. Here is the data we've gotten so far.
We now hearby put forth a disclaimer that your actual mileage may vary and this is by no means, a claim that you will get the exact results we have gotten.

Chimney shields
Getting the prototype tomorrow.
Its tricky and we want to get it right the first time. For the time being, we will offer the standard version - which offers significant reductions already. Did you want to wait for the chimney version? It will be probably 50 - 75 more in price at this time. (these are estimates and are by no means the actuals).

I'm interested in the Ti version with chimney but I wanna get in on the free shipping... Oh the dilemma, Jeremy! If the Ti doesn't come through though, I want the stainless with chimney.

BTW, what is wrong with a garage project? I have had better things come out my garage than many professional engineering firms...
One example, the Engine from the tucker came from Prestons garage..
either way I like the part and will wait until a future incarnation.
