IX.. I've said it before. You could have made you point without using that picture; period.
I understand you edited it out but the fact still remains what it says and means. Thats all I am saying here..
Yeah I could have just kept my thoughts to myself like the 95% of the other people who lurked that thread as well as this one. You are right.
But I didn't.

jew has been adopted to be used in hate speach jsut as the N word has been adopted as a colloquialism in the african American community.
so since they are both used as a self descriptor by the targeted groups and at the same time can be hate speach, what makes one worse than the other?

"******" on the other hand is always derogatory. Do people use it to define themselves or others? Yes, but it is still not culturally acceptable by any means. The majority of Americans would be offended if you were walking down the street and said, "look at that ******," or "he's a ******" There are huge cultural connotations associated with the word. Yes, it was okay to use in 1809, but this is 2009. Its not okay anymore.

Your argument is broke. In the year 2009, Jew is not necessarily derogatory. People define themselves as a "Jew" or "Jewish." When someone asks me what religion my friend practices, it is culturally acceptable for me to say "he's a Jew." Yes, the term can be used in a derogatory or racist fashion, but in modern western culture whether or not it is derogatory is entirely dependent on the context.

so i ask again... if both words are used for self-identification based on race AND and slurs, what makes one worse than the other?

It is not okay for you, as a white person, to use the "n" word. It doesn't matter why, it simply is not okay in modern American culture. And since the majority of Americans would be offended by you using that word, it is not okay on this site. We are not here to push cultural boundaries. If you want to go do that, go buy yourself an easel, some paint, and go show your work in a gallery. Not here.
