And on the topic of practicing what i preach:

I have been for about 6 1/2 months now. I'm down 49lb, and its hasn't even been that difficult. I am, however, starting to get the FatBastard style skin rolls...

For some strange reason I'm doubting you've been there.

If Switzerland suffers from anything, it's from the fact that it derives its culture from too many sources. It has nothing to do with Socialism and everything to do with the region the country is in, as evidenced by the fact that the country has been around since the 13th century and hasn't had its current form of government (a direct democracy, btw -- not "socialism") for more than half a century.

Just because you haven't heard of a "Swiss restaurant" doesn't mean anything. Ever heard of Swiss chocolate (Toblerone is incredibly popular internationally)? Swiss watches? Swiss army knives? Swiss banking system?

its seems what you fail to understand is that socialist philosophy and its practical application are much different. your proving my point for me, "from to many sources" = the culture has been homogenized. Now, while socialism as an economic system doesn't force this in any way, it does create an environment that is conducive to the degradation of individuality.

seriously your taking this way to far. it started as a joke. but really, swatches? your defending the swiss culture with swatches and toberlones? commercial exports != culture.

that's like saying Chinese culture consists of plastic and lead paint.

in fact the only reason i brought this up is because i wrote a paper back in the day about how Switzerland is like Tofu (a tasteless, colorless, food item that is neither delicious nor disgusting.)

Really?

In my very first reply to you:

Remember: the actual political philosophy is rarely what is implemented in a country. No European country is actually socialist, and no communist nation has ever been actually communist, and the United States is not a free market, nor is it a capitalist system.

What you said was:

socialism aims to homogenize a society. just look at the swiss, they have no culture.
I take that statement as you saying that "homogenization = no culture," which means that you said that "socialism aims to remove culture," which I disagree with.

As to whether it degrades individuality or not, that depends on what kind of socialism you're talking about, and how you define individuality.

Swiss watches are legendary timepieces, world-renowned for their accuracy and dependability. Swiss chocolate is equally famous for its rich flavor and high quality, and the Swiss banking system is so well-known for its security, privacy and protection of customer assets that it has become almost synonymous with international banking. I only cited these "exports" because I figured they would be the ones you would likely be the most familiar with. If you need further examples of the culture of Switzerland, I suggest not taking my word for it and reading the link I copied that goes into detail about the culture of Switzerland.
