socialism aims to homogenize a society. just look at the swiss, they have no culture.

No matter how good you eat, how much you exercise and how often you get a check up; fact is you can and most likely WILL run into health problems - but the point I want to keep is that the government should NOT have the right/ability to tell person A they can live and person B they cannot.
what i do not accept is the idea that we must lower the bar so far in order to help a few who REFUSE to help themselves. There are perfectly good reasons, for example, for being confined to a wheelchair. Obesity BY CHOICE is not one of them, yet our taxes still pay for their Rascal scooters.
see my point?

thats the concept behind any government... give up something (some freedom, taxes, whatever) in exchange for stability.

The homogenization of a culture has nothing to do with socialist philosophy; read some Proudhon, Fourier and Owen.
Remember: the actual political philosophy is rarely what is implemented in a country. No European country is actually socialist, and no communist nation has ever been actually communist, and the United States is not a free market, nor is it a capitalist system.

but think of how much money we will save if we don't have to buy ambulances capable of carrying 800lb land manatees. there are plenty of legitimate health issues in perfectly healthy people... addressing those health issues SHOULD DEFINITELY be a priority.

Part of it is the parents problem (poor eating habits early in life yield poorer choices later in life).
Another one is education, sure we all learned the food pyramid YET THE CAFETERIA AT SCHOOL SERVES PIZZA, FRIES, DOUGHNUTS AND CANDY.
Let's get with the ****ing program people and practice what we preach!!!!

I am.
I have for all pratical purposes given up:
Soda, ice cream, fast food, processed carbo foods, beer, yummy meat products.
BTW, I heard that ~50% of all money spent on a person's health care is spent during the last two weeks of life.

Soda - DIAF.
Ice Cream - Good in SMALL amounts.
Fast Food - DIAF.
Processed Foods - DIAF.
Beer - Again, good in small amounts.
Meat - I urge you to try Ostrich. The healthiest meat you can eat and tastes JUST like beef. Chicken and Turkey are good.
Beef is a huge problem for this world - not just health related but resources to feed, room to graze, yield of product and yes, pollution.

There are certain places that serve it. Off the top of my head, I believe Murder/Redrum Burger in Davis sells ostrich burgers, and La Fondue in Saratoga offers ostrich as one of the meat choices.
