I've read that measuring from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender well should be 13.5-14 inches. You're probably WAY too low and actually negatively affecting you handling as a result.

mult. "reference" #'s from Tein
I'm WAY confused, too.
I also just recently installed my Tein flex. I bought them "lightly" used from a forum member (they looked brand new). Install instructions list model as for "Impreza 02+"
I have the "original" install instructions (appear to be ver. updated 04/2003 [INSD6-S28U-02-P/U-200304]. They list a reference value from wheel center to fender edge of 13.19"/13.15' (F/R) They also give references for lower bracket to seat lock, lower spring seat to upper spring seat, etc. Manual states "90 mm road clearence at reference value"
I just went to the Tein website and downloaded the "current" "Impreza 02+ type flex" install instructions (supposedly for same model); [INSD6-S40U-03-P/U-200511] I assume that this is a ver. updated 11/05.

"this" instruction manual gives a reference value from wheel center to fender edge of 13.2"/12.8' (F/R) . It also lists fairly significantly different reference values for spring perch/lower bracket heights of ~0.75" difference for most measurements.
I'm not sure which "reference values" to use.
It is not a "huge" difference (especially since they are just recommended reference starting points), except that I now find myself in an interesting predicament. I will be shipping my WRX to Hawaii in 3 weeks (which is why I wanted to get as much work done here as possible b/c we have limited/no access to shops in Kona and shipping costs for large parts like a BBK and suspension are $$$). I contacted Horizon Lines, (ship to Kawaihae, whereas Matson ships to Hilo AND b/c they ship car INSIDE a container (so less exposure to salt air, etc.). HOWEVER THEY HAVE A MINIMUM GROUND CLEARENCE OF 6". Well, Suby manual says the WRX wagon has 6.1" GC "stock". With Teins at current settings, I am prob dropped a good 2+". Even if I raise the flex coilevers to their max height, it appears (from Tein.com tech page) that the car will be ~stock height in rear and -2" in front.
It's always something...I'll prob have to deal w/ Matson.

well - I respect you guys for doing the install yourself. I personally had a shop do it for me.
Regardless, I did specify a 30mm drop which equals 1.2 inches. It maintains the response of the suspension while lowering the center of gravety.
Oh, I have an 05 STI with the Tein Flex with EDFC for reference. I know its slightly different.
