Sways or Springs: Best option for performance?

Hey guys, I had a quick question.

Since the holidays are coming up I thought I'd ask for something from the gf. Since we are college students money is an issue so Im limited to these options.

I drive a 2002 wrx and use it as a DD and will be doing some auto x on the weekends.

My options are:

1) Swift springs
2) Rear sway bar with endlinks
3) Front and rear sway bar and keep the stock endlinks for now.

My concerns are that if I do with option 3, then I'm not getting the most out of the sways, and option 2 puts me with only the rear sway bar on. Option one seems to be the best to me because it will eliminate body roll. But I wanted your guys opinions!

Im looking for the option that will give me the best performance for what I plan on doing with the car i.e. auto x and DD. Thanks!

I'd either go option 1 or 3.

you can add the endlinks later.

I think handling wise the sways will make the most dramatic difference but I think you'll be happier with the springs because they'll make your car look AND handle better.

I'm assuming you're on stock suspension?

I'd start saving for some kind of strut option for a later date. Old struts won't last forever with stiffer springs on them.

Option 2 is no good. 3 is fine as long as you don't go over aggressive on the bars.

I think your best option would be to go with the springs. My buddy was in the same situation. He went with Tanabe GF210s first then he got the Tanabe Sustec Stabilizers front and rear on his WRX and he does weekend auto X.

Just be careful. Running larger sway bars might contribute to your stock endlinks eating it. As for the opinion by charlesj, I don't really see a reason why you shouldn't do rear endlinks and swaybar. Maybe there is some reason that I don't know about. BTW, have fun removing the subframe thingie when you do your front sway bar.

Depends on what you want from the car.
Lower CG...get springs.
Less roll...get a set of sway bars.

Thanks for the advice, but if i wanted a lower cg, and got springs, wont that kill my stock struts. I'm on 73k miles so im afraid to get springs and blow out my stock struts and not have enough money to replace them.

Why not just start out with a good set of aftermarket endlinks? That way the initial buy-in will be low, and you can make the most out of your stock sways and better determine how big you want to go on bar size.
Depending on this guys budget, I'd have to agree with 4UBARUS. I've been engaging in a similar conversation with a guy on another forum about the endlinks. OEM, Kartboy, and Cobbs aftermarket endlinks all tend to break under agressive driveing. I always recomend the Poltec endlinks. They see ~1.4LGs every other weekend and haven't even had to readjust them after my bars settled. That said, this is mainly for a racing or autox setup. If you don't ever plan on going to an autox then the Poltecs might be an overkill.

If you decide to go with springs, look into the KYB AGX's. they'll do what you are wanting to do, they're adjustable (crank em up for an autox), and they are reasonably priced.

My $.02
