rotor upgrade questions

I want to upgrade my brakes but the big brake kits are a butt-load of money and im on college so money is very tight. But I wanted to know if I was to just upgrade the front rotors (project mu) with everything else stock (calipers , brake lines and rear disc) would that throw the braking balance off and would I feel a big difference in braking? or should I just get rotors for front and rear? and do they fit under the stock wheels (05 wrx)? thanks in advance.

What do you plan to use the car for? That will really help us determine what an appropriate upgrade would be.

swapping out the rotors would not affect brake balance at all, but it wouldn't really help with performance either....if its two piece and slotted or cross drilled it would just keep the rotor slightly cooler and help with brake fade.

if you want a performance upgrade for your brakes you need to get pads especially, brake lines and fluid will help with pedal feel.

if you are not getting a big brake upgrade then any direct replacement rotor will fit under the stock wheels of course, i'm gonna end up getting just the Stoptech stage 2 upgrade.....pads, rotors, lines and fluid for around 600. ywia

well when im done i plan to have a daily driver and go to the tracks when I can. (probably weekends) but for now since the car is stock i just want better braking. I know that people usually say that stock is good for stock but I figure that you can never have too good braking. i just want better braking for now since i dont drive hard (often but I just figure for a daily driver that upgraded rotors wouldnt hurt. just wanted to make sure that it wouldnt throw off the braking balance. and that if the rotors alone would be an upgrade to the braking, actually lower braking distance. thats all for now though just better braking. I do plan on buying these sti (four pot) calipers. but for now just better braking. so for so much writing watching tv getting distracted sorry if I repeated things over but you get the general idea

Unless you're doing something (like track days) that really heats your brakes up, slotted/upgraded rotors won't be much of an improvement for you. If you're looking for better pedal feel, change the rubber lines to stainless steel and change the pads to something more aggressive. Plenty of WRX's do just fine out on the track with just these upgrades so you should be covered for a while. Once you start really pushing the car on the track, you'll probably want to look into BBK's.

I was wondering about the stainless steel lines, is that difficult to do? (to actually get the lines through the car) my dad changed the brakelines on his truck before so he could help me but I was wondering on subaru's are they hard to get to or fairly accessible(?) Thanks for the quick responses and info.
