Rear Differential Clunk on 1st to 2nd Shift
Whenever I shift hard from 1st to 2nd, sometimes I can feel a pretty hard clunk from what sounds like the rear differential. I'm not sure if this is normal. I've heard that there is a way to solve this problem, but I can't remember what it was that I heard. Is this a problem, and if so, is it fixable?
Thanks.

It is the front differential supports making the "thump" noise. Whiteline makes upgraded bushings that are supposed to fix it.

Correct, but they are noisy. I had em, and took em off within a couple weeks. It really adds to the NVH of the car. Especially if you haev an aftermarket exhaust. But they do work as advertised.

thump
Impala,
You mentioned the front differntial support, is this a common issue? And not to sound stupid, but is it a thump or a clunk? I actually have a clunck that feels like it is under my feet when stopping hard and climbing up my drive way. I mentioned in another post that I had checked all fasteners and check the torque of each. I checked steering linkage, exhaust, and motor mounts. This just started after getting a clutch replace at subaru. However, your explaination sound like this could be my issue. I will check into it.
