quick question on suspension upgrade
I was wondering if anyone could offer their opinions on the factory-installed Performance Suspension Kit upgrade for the WRX I am thinking about. I am planning to get the WRX, which will be used occasionally for long highway trips, but also occasionally for short city (New York) trips. So bumps, potholes, etc. are a factor.
From a road performance and wear & tear standpoint, is it worth getting the upgrade for $1800 extra?
I'm not really interested in aftermarket modifications. Just wanted to find out if this factory upgrade was worth getting.
Thanks very much for any help.

In a word - yes. If you have a sedan what you are getting is oe STi v7 RA springs/struts, plus a 19mm front sway bar, aluminum control arms and front lateral link bushings.
This is a very well sorted suspension capable for track days, autox, rallyx and picking your mother-in-law up at the airport!
What it's missing (besides hi-po tires that are a must) are hardened tops (STi Group N). You don't want to run the firmer springs/dampers w/ the oe top- they are too compliant. The tops will run about $300 front and rear.
You can also spend about $1200-1300 for just the springs/struts- no control arms, sway bar, bushings etc, if you fell you don't want/need these.
I think this is one of the most versatile/strong suspension setup out there.
Do a search in this forum and you'll see many more testimonials and other specs etc.
