finally,a nice clunk free ride

06 sti w/70k miles.

i noticed the tell tale signs of strut clunk early on after my purchase.i tried applying grease to the shaft.that only worked for a short while.then i found a post for "05 sti jdm take offs" from dickson.these were 2005 sti struts that came off a 10-15k car.they looked to be in very good shape, almost new.we worked on a price, well 3 months later i FINALLY was able to pick them up.

now before installing i figured i would give them a once over.pulling them apart i found they all had the same yellow grease/wax issue.is was more wax than grease but in much better shape than some of the other people have found.i used mobil 1 synthetic grease and lubed the living **** out of them.i packed as much as i could into every knook and cranny.

well i install everything last nite.boy does she ride nice now.no more noise or wired sounds.and since the struts are newer it ride very nice and handles better.

so with done i would say if you have less than 40k on your stock stuff and dont want to fork out money for CO,take a couple hours and do what i did,re grease the whole thing.its worth it

The factory grease in the struts are junk. Most people re-grease the struts with lithium grease and most if not all the noise is gone. I'm actually in the middle of re-greasing some 04 STi struts to put on my WRX.

Glad to hear of another person re-greasing their struts to be clunk free!!!

Somewhat correct! Wrxs don't have a nut on the bottom and there also not inverted like the STi is.

Yeah, but WRX's don't have the clunking anyways

Is there anything to watch out for? Any parts that are going to go flying out? How tight do I torque the nut upon completion?

my 07 gonna be hitting 49k soon. ever since i put my new rims on with SAME tires i had before, ive been hearing weird noises, especially when i have more people in the car, mainly in the rear right . when i go over little bumps or driveways, my car aint even LOWERED> perhaps i just need to regrease my struts?. it sounds like something rubbing but its not the tire!

any1 help me out on what the issue might be?

there is a grease trap in the strut housing. you grease that and grease up the strut.

If you do a search on nasioc, there is a link somewhere on how to do it and it has pictures.
Search for "strut regrease".
