STI Strut Clunk - Any not clunking?

Hi,

I've been reading on Nasioc that people with 2004 and 2005 STi's have had some problems with their suspension. It seems anywhere between 5-30k miles the rear struts start clunking. I'm just curious if anyone here has an STi with some decent miles and no strut problems. I just got a 2006 and I'm wondering if I can look forward to clunky struts.

Thanks!

I have not yet heard of any problems with the 06 struts but I just had to replace my rear struts on my 05 STi because of the strut clunking. I also had lowering springs on them so I think that helped the problem a little.

You should take the car to the dealer and tell them about the struts recall on the 04 sti, they installed the 2005 struts on them, I know they replaced mine here in Hawaii when i took it in for the same reason...hopefuly that helps...

Angry

I have an 06 sti with 6,000 miles on it and have this annoying rattle/clunk at low RPM's. I've taken it to the dealership once and they couldn't find anything wrong so today I just re-scheduled another appointment to have them concentrate on certain areas. I'll let you know if they find anything

2nd set of struts

Well subaru did not get this right. those darn 04-05 rear struts just do not hold up. I had my first set replaced at 12k and now at 38k the replacements are banging like a SOB. I actually am driving it longer to make sure they really hear the racket. In 2 weeks I am taking my 04 sti in and hoping they will do this a second time under warranty because in fact I only have 20+k on this set. First set was replaced under warranty so now it will be interesting to see about this set. by the sounds of it I am not alone in strut hell!!!!

I have an 06 STI and I've had a rattling noise in the rear ever since I bought it. Checked the back to see if anything was loose, but no dice. I guess it's the strut problem everyone's havin

I have an 06 and I did locate a rattling noise that seems to be common in the 06's and it's in the compartment where the jack is located. There is this little square type thing that comes loose and it rattles noticeably.

17k on my 04 sti, no problems yet. Some of the guys on iwsti.com have found a fix to this problem. It is due to leaking grease in the strut. They said that it's easy to rebuild the strut yourself.

i have the Ver.8 JDM STi struts..and ive got that clunking..its annoying..so i just used suspension lube from my Downhill Mountain Bike Shock. i figured what the hell...its meant for the stantions on the struts. so i tried it..and viola...it worked it went away....but it sucks after a good hard rain..or about 3 months...it comes back!...bah....im looking into some KYB AGX's when i get tired of re-lubing them up....
