Steering Problems
Steering Problems
About a week ago, I went into a wet grassy field to spin a few donuts. After a slide, I turned the wheel and gave it some gas. The steering felt heavy at first and then there was a very bad burning smell. I drove back to my friend's house and found that the steering worked fine if I was above ~3000 RPM. The next morning, I started the car up and the steering was fine but it looked like there was some fluid sprayed on the timing belt cover right below the power steering pump and the intake for the coolant. So, I figured that the hose must have a hole in it and was spraying onto the belt that powers the steering pump causing it to slip. I finally got a hose for it and put it on, spilling a fair bit of coolant in the process. I started the car, and added more cooling in at the pressure cap and let it run for a while. Once again, the steering worked for a while but then it was back to the same problem and now, there is no heat. I'm assuming that the heat problem is b/c of some issue with all the coolant that leaked out and some sort of air bubble or something, but why won't the steering work? Is it possible that the belt has received permanent damage? How long are those belts supposed to last?
