Front to back should be fine. In many cases it's required as more and more (high performance) tires are "directional" meaning they can only be on one side of the car so you have to go front to back.

That wasn't a dumb question. Like sonicsuby said, front to back is fine. I just rotated mine and I had to diagonally. My front right tire had the worst wear and the left rear had the least. So we went diagonally.

Also remember, if you do it yourself and I'm assuming that you are or you wouldnt ask this question, make sure that you torque them down properly.

Wheel locks are not standard. Subaru does offer McGard locks as an add-on option but without seeing what you have there is no way to tell if that's what you have or the locks were purchased elsewhere by the last owner. In either case the dealer was irresponsible if they delivered a car to you without checking to be sure the key was there.
I assume you have checked all the possible hiding places- glovebox, trunk (including underneath by the spare), center console, door pockets.

Are they stock lug nuts or aftermarket ones (like spline drives)? If it's a stock keyed set, hopefully the dealer could help you get one.

at the dealership they rotate front the back, back to front. make sure its not a rotational tire before you do any kind of diagonal rotating.
