Plan on purchasing on 05 WRX, what to do?
I live in San Antonio, TX and have several dealerships around me (Austin, San Antonio, Houston). I have been looking at used WRXs and they range from $17 to $22k. Since this price isnt too far off I am currently looking into purchasing a new 05 instead of messing around with a used WRX. One of the current offers at the local Subaru is the rebate ($1500) plus dealership discount which is like $1471 as well which puts the car at $3k below MSRP ($22,999)~. This still seems a bit unreasonable to me with the 06's arriving soon. I want an OTD price of about $22k with a few options. I have emailed three of the local dealerships to see if they can quote me a price to rival the SAAB 9-2x Aero. I have from now until September to buy a car (I dont have a trade in and I am paying cash). I have read that there is no point in waiting to buy because the price wont go down that much.
What are the best prices people have pulling lately OTD, what location, and what options?
I have read that Southwest Subaru Impreza sales arent that great. So it may be easier to pull a cheaper sale than California and up north.

up until today , i finally have the cash for the downpayment, ive already looked for over a week and monitor the inventory of subaru dealers around my area. so far its 2 less for me to choose.
but the 05s are dwindling and i suggest you buy it asap before u get stuck with a color or option you dont want.
as far as price, you will see the different states vary in price, so as long as you can get it below invoice then you should be happy enough.
Im going to put a down on a rex tommorow , so wish me luck, same as u.

Nice, Gl!
Theres currently a used blue STI with 31k for private sell @ $23,400. I might take a look at that instead. Otherwise, I will shark around for the best 05 WRX deal. How do I find invoice information etc? (edmunds?)

05 wrx
for an 05, you should be in the 21's before tax and title for a base 5 speed with no options.
As good a deal as that STi sounds, I'd be hesitant at the least about a car that's seen that much action in a year. STi's are pretty durable under normal conditions, but 30K per year is tough, especially if the maintence isn't immaculate.

Theres a used silver/taupe 05 legacy GT LTD for sale here in San Antonio TX for $24,999. It has 8,261 miles but it is still used. I made an offer of $24000 OTD. My salesman went to the head guy and then the head guy came out and talked to me. I told him that the invoice for a new one was like $26,400. This one had been sitting in his lot for at least a month. He tried to make me sound like I didnt know what I was talking about and blah blah. I didnt feel like arguing and he tried to sell me a WRX for that price. He was a real jerk and asshat. I told him that his WRXs' were too high priced starting at $23k. I am going to wait a week and see if its still there. $22k sounds more reasonable, but they are the only dealer in town (think I am going to have to shop statewise).
play the game
the sales manager there is just playing the game. It's all a big game really. Best way to combat it is to play the game back. ..
Go online, find another dealer that's 100 miles away or so (close enough to be feasible that you would go there, but too far for this manager to be best friends with the manager there....), look at their online inventory, pick a car that's similar. Print it's information off the internet, then take it in and tell the manager at your local store that the other dealer offered you this comparable car for $23 (or whatever you want to pay, but make sure you're being reasonable, if you say $20,000 he'll see right through you). Tell them that if they match the price, you'll buy from them, if not, then you're willing to make the drive.
If you want to really make it look realistic, call up the other dealer, and ask them to mail you a brochure on the 05 Legacy. Get the salesperson's name, and ask him to send one of his cards along with the brochure. Now you've got a business card from the other dealer, staple it to the quote you printed off their website, and voila, it looks like you've driven 100 miles to look at another car (which makes you obviously a serious buyer), and you've never even gotten off the couch.
