Purchasing: Brembo bbk for wrx or Stoptech help
My friends,
Im in desperate need of your almighty wisdom! You see, i just got a job so im making a little cash to buy some breaks. My friend has a deal for me, They are brembo bbk, for the wrx (fronts). This is 4pot, slotted/drilled rotors, sslines, pads the works. The price is only 1300 new after doing some search these look like a good price considering the brand.
Heres the problem, These are not sti v8 take offs. they are 355 rotor, which i hear requires 18's rims. I had my heart seton 17's can anyoone clear that up.
Also, for around 1300 i can find some used 4pot stoptech front and back!
Now im all about performance so im having a heard time deciding, Which bbk would outperform the other? Ive heard about stoptech outperforming brembo in a C&D is this true.
If i do choose the brembos, I would have to upgrade the rear because, idont want the break bias to be messed up. Again, Ive heard that, upgrading the front bbk w/o the rear would actualy decrease stoping power.
With the brembo fronts, should i get the h4 rears, or v8 or v7 rear take offs (perffered)? Are STI rears commonly available, if so how much and are they directbolt on. Once agian i hear u have to change rear axels and more to do sti rear brembos,
In conclusion im open for everyones ideas or opinions. All iswelcome, Please help me because im in a jam. I dont want to invest 1300 in brakes and regrete it later on. Please quide me in the right path and help me spend WISE.
f.y.i my car is turboxs stg 2 so its time i upgrade brakes.

I have Stoptechs, and I have never found myself wanting. Pedal feel is rock solid, and they stop the car in a hurry. They are kinda noisey when they're cold, but no biggie. I have driven STi's as well, and I perfer how the Stoptechs feel.

teck7droid- IMO, go with the Stoptechs. They have proven to be one of the best, if not the best BBK in the market in terms of performance and value. Check out the comparison CarandDriver did on the Brembo BBK, Prodrive BBK and the Stoptech BBK:
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=3
The Stoptechs better than the Prodrives and performed just as well as the $3K Brembo BBK. Also, the Stoptechs were design to work w/ the stock WRX rear brakes, so you need not worry about brake bias issues. Hope this helps.

We provide a technically superior product, we take pride in our customer service, our cost of replacement parts is 20 to 30% cheaper than Brembo's (and the parts are technically superior), and our kit costs much less. We now offer a 332x32mm front brake upgrade (as opposed to the standard 328x28mm kit) for extra heat capacity, and we are releasing a rear wheel brake upgrade that is 100% compatible with our existing front wheel brake upgrades.
I can provide you with specific examples of how our products excel versus our competitors if you so please, so ask if you're interested. Let me know if you have any further questions and I'll do my best to answer your questions as honestly as possible. Finally, if you're looking for a local StopTech vendor, we work closely with MPJ Performance / GB Motorsports and I can tell from personal experience as well as on the business side of things that they are doing it right.
Thanks,
Tim Kelsch

Having had Stoptech's BBK on my WRX wagon and now having the Brembo's on my STi, I would vote for Stoptech. The Stoptechs felt more confident and didn't make any of the noises my Brembos do.

I believe the same. That brings me to this question.
Is there any possibility that the Stoptech BBK that I have on my current WRX can be made to fit a EVO or STi if I upgrade cars?
I know the mounting brackets are different and you "tune" the piston sizes for the different cars but is fitment on different cars a bracket and rotor hat difference away from working?

Bryan,
It's fairly rare that any of our kits will work on applications other than what they are listed for, especially when you're talking about going to a different make. Our BBK for the WRX will not fit either the STi or EVO due to the fact that you likely have the 328x28mm kit for the WRX, whereas our kit for the STi uses a 332x32mm front rotor and we have 332x32 and 355x35mm kits for the front of the EVO. The brackets, hats, rotors, and likely the calipers would be totally different, so 9 times out of 10 it makes much more sense to sell your old kit and buy the newer kit for your newer car.
Thanks,
Tim Kelsch

Thanks, I did, I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask the source 1 on 1.

I have the Stage 2 kit. Check out the pics. Excuse the dirt on the wheels, I still haven't cleaned all the brake dust from those Axxis pads. I have stock pads on it now.
As for my review, I e-mailed you directly.
