May I know if replacing the clutch on a boxer is just the same as replacing a clutch on any other 4 banger?

the tranny mounts the same way?

how many hours of work is that if done by a shop?

Not sure........I have never changed one in any type of car. Not that I wouldn't want to try, but I never had the opportunity to try it.

If there is someone who is going to do one soon, let me know I will help out just to learn how to do it myself.

i recently changed mine with the help of wonderful i-clubbers from Hawai'i...imo, it's a pretty hard job...specially for a first timer....

i wanted to do it because i didn't wanna pay the price for labor, if done by a shop...also to gain alittle experience/knowledge....

as far as clutch jobs are concerned its pretty straight foward. I did mine this weekend in about 4 hours, mind you I have access to a full lift. There is LOTS of room to work with under the car and the front axels are a snap to remove unlike most FWD cars. Remove the exhaust, IC, unbolt rear driveshaft, slide off the two front driveshafts unbolt the shift linkage and trans mount and remove the trans.

05 STI. Replaced/upgraded stock clutch with cusco clutch at around 7k miles. Now at 22k and starting to slip bad. Lots of launches on it though. Im getting into sixth gear when i shoud be getting into fifth at the drag strip.

mine lasted about 112,000 but started slipping pretty bad, had the second one replaced 60,000 later, just because the engine was getting changed and I didn't want to have to dig in again too soon, and I wasn't happy with the lightened flywheel- stalled too easy, no momentum at low RPM.
