Forester issues

I just visted a site where folks were bemoaning the problems they are having with 1999/2000 foresters. Most centered around replacing wheel bearings/hubs with great frequency, costing $'s and not being covered by warranty's. But they also agreed on excessive tire wear (every 20 k miles), head gasket issues, etc.
Has anyone here had that experience? I am thinking about a used 1999/2000, but don't want to step into a mechanical problem.
All of them indicate that they love the car, but won't get another.
Help!!

The mechanical issues are there, it's up to you if you wanna chance it. The bearings have been updated. The tire wear issue is related either to the wheel bearings or alignment issues. Head gasket. . . good luck on that one cause it could happen since Subaru have a TSB on it. Good luck.
