Any comments on the new Mobil Oils?

Anyone have any comments or thoughts on the new Mobil Oils...

Mobil 1 Extended Performance
Mobil Clean 5000
Mobil Clean High Mileage
Mobil Clean 7500

I mean won't your oil filter need to be changed at 3k anyway, so what do you throw the old oil back in? Anyway just wanted to know if anyone knew of other benefits these new products might have.

I change my oil and filter every 3k. Mobile 1. I have been laughed at for this until i explained why. I change it not because the oil has broken down. I change it to get all of the crap that gets into the oil, out of the engine. I have noticedd after about 1500 miles on fresh oil that my oil starts to turn dark. This is deposits in the oil, carbon and what not. I would like to get these impurities out of my engine. I would never leave oil in my car for more than 4 k let alone 5k,7.5k, 0r 15k . Just my 2 cents

I got 260K off of my '90 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo, and it was running good when I sold it in 2003. Used only conventional oil on the Eclipse doing my own oil & filter changes at 3-4K miles. I'm still using Castrol GTX on my WRX.

It's foolish to pay more for synthetic oil. Don't get played on synthetic.

Clarification please.... what exactly do you mean by borked? Are you losing oil at the rings, have worn bearings already, or what?

I would hope you broke it in properly before switching to synthetic.

Well after break-in, I ran 5w-30, and I noticed the engine was noisy. I also tried 10-30 to see if it helped, and it did, but not too much. I finally settled on 10-30 conventional oil (quaker state, usually). The motor seems happy on it, and I change it at 3000 miles.

AS FAR AS YOUR Question, I just bought some Mobile Clean oil to try out, but will probably use it on one of my other cars. It appears to be simply a conventional and synthetic blend, so they'll be able to still reach customers that "want the best," but aren't willing to fork out $5 per quart. It's probably just as effective to use 4 quarts of cheap conventional oil, and add a quart of synthetic.

1. SoA will respond (pick one only):
a. Talk to Mobil.
b. Good luck to you.
c. Didn't you read the service manual?
d. If Mobil says it's ok, then here is your brand new engine on our dime!

2. Mobil will say (pick one only):
a. Ask SoA
b. Good luck to you, here's a gift certificate for $5 on your next purchase.
c. Didn't you read the service manual?
d. Sure, we warranty all cars, here is your brand new engine.

I'd say mobile has done extensive market research and is counting on people who change their oil only once every 7500 not keeping their cars for more than 30,000 - 60,000.

err...my owner's manual states that under severe driving conditions that I should change my oil at 3,750 and under normal driving conditions that I should change the oil at 7,500 miles. I follow the 3,750 simply because I don't want to coke oil in my turbo. On most modern, daily driven cars 7,500 miles is fine. They've been doing this in Europe for many years.

I wouldn't mind replacing my oil later (like 5k miles perhaps) but doesn't the filter need to be changed before this?

Synthetic is well worth it. You guys need to read corky bell's book on turbochargers. Oil in turbo cars needs to be changed ever 2k to 3k miles to keep everything running well. $25 of oil is a lot cheaper than a new engine. You can go much longer on oil and a filter than most of us do, but why do it. If you want your car to run well for as long as possible take car of it with frequent oil changes. Brandy, if you just follow the subaru 7.5k changes w/ filter you are fine.

Sorry, the myth that you must change convential oil before 3K on a turbocharged car is just that... a myth. I have the first-hand drivers and owners experience to prove it. I drove a 1990 Mitsu Eclipse GS Turbo for 260K miles on conventional oil and sold it while it was still running good. Have you ever run ANY 4-banger for 260K miles? Convential oil is cost effective, recycleable, excellent lubrication for turbo engines. I suspect Corky Bell wrote his book 'way back before they started putting intercoolers onto turbo cars.
