Just Looking
Today I stopped by the local Subaru dealer to check out the Sti. I have been a long time WRX fan but have never owned a Subaru.
I am checking out the Sti, Mustang and GTO. The Sti seems like the best car for year-round driving.
I told the salesman I just wanted to sit in the car and see how it fit, no test drive.
He oversold the Sti (0 - 60 in 3.9) with some of the performance specs.
I give him credit as he did know how much power is split between front and back.
He also stated the car is a fun or 'toy' car, meaning it's not really I great family hauler. (Basically my commuter/fun car)
He did mention that good snow tires would be needed for the winter months as the standard tires are not a good tire for ice/snow. From the looks of the stock tires I agree.
I was impressed with the overall package. The doors seemed a little flimsy but overall feels well put together. I have still not made peace with the wing out back but it is growing on me.
I am currently driving a TSX but looking for a little more'fun' in my daily commute. The TSX (6MT) is a fun car but tips the scales to the luxury side of the equation.

huh
many people daily drive their STi's, you may want to search for threads related to that, there have been several discussing the plusses and minuses of daily driving an STi. Depending on your location, he's probably right about the snow tires. It's certainly no worse than a 'stang, and with snow tires, they're pretty much unstoppable. Many people on these forums would likely be willing to trade you an unwinged trunk for your STi trunk if you don't like the wing.
as far as 0-60 in 3.9, maybe down a really steep hill...
As far as performance goes, you really can't compare the feel of a FWD non-turbo car to the capabilities of AWD and turbo. Sitting in the car does it no justice, you have to drive it to believe it. TSX is a gussied up accord. There's no comparison.

Performance wise I would imagine that there is little comparison between a Sti and TSX. I just wanted to make sure I fit in the Sti. At 6'2" and 250# I need to make sure I am comfortable in a car.
The TSX is the European Accord, good all around car, just looking for some excitement with my commute.
And, didn't want to waste the sales persons time with a test drive until I am a little more serious.
