2000 Impreza RS Catalytic Converter

I found this site while looking online for a catalytic converter for my 2000 Impreza RS 2.5. Mine is going out, and because of this my car is failing emissions.

Does anyone know of a place to get a cheap or used cat? Anyone know of any tricks so that I can pass emissions?

Thanks.

If you have less than 80k miles on the car, the catalytic falls under the federal emissions warranty. So the dealer (as long as the cat is defective) will replace it for free.

If the car is modified, they may not want to replace it.

Yea, I spoke with the dealership, and they told me the same thing. Unfortunately I have 94k miles on my car. And yes, the car is still stock.

Would an older Impreza cat work? Something from a 98 L series or a Legacy?

Also, I checked with my local junkyard, and they said because they don't have a catalytic converter tester, they cannot resell them. Does anyone know of a junkyard that does sell used cats?

i bought this car used, and there is not cat on it.. it has been modded but most of it was taken off... he left a no cat mangaflow exhuast system..

if i ask the factory if they will give me a stock cat would they, and would the stock cat fit onto this exhuast? im guessing this car has a testpipe... but havent really taken a look under

failed cats

I have a 2001 2.5rs, i got it in march with 116k, the day after i got it the cel came on and they fixed the cat under warrenty. Then at 122k the cat failed again, this time they said the honeycome effectivly melted, the end result was a raddling and great loss of power (with the thing floored it wouldnt rev above 3.5k). So i got another one under warrenty. At about 120k i made my own CAI, otherwise the car is effectivly stock. Now im at 129k, everything seems good, but im still weary of it...

anyone have any reason why a cat would fail like that after 6 thousand miles?

Yes i drive hard from time to time, and shift after 5k on average every day.
