long story short, check engine light, o2 sensor replaced (both), check engine light again... it's the cat.

all the auto part stores here don't carry it, the dealer wants $1200 for it, and the exhaust shops like mieneke want big bucks for it. i'm not going to do either of those options as i can live a little while with the bright orange light on, and i can do the work myself.

now, some of you may be insulted by this, but i need a new cat, a quiet one, that doesn't make my car sound like a riceboy car.

i'm not too fond of the sound, and neither are the cops, exspecially with the noise ordinance in my town...

i was wondering if anyone here put on a proformance exhaust without having it sound any diffrent.

i saw my exhaust has three cat's and a resonator, and a muffler, which makes it look stupid, but oh well. stupid california emissions crap.... i also wanted to get an air intake someday, just for the cheap cost/easy hp gain/fuel efficency that it has.

any ideas?

it's a 98 legacy with 50,000 miles, but the exhaust has like 5 or 6 on it.

the code is P0420 , catalyst not sufficent or something... it's not turbo , and i saw the silencer removal, i just don't want to sound diffrent than it already is... my friends get hassled all the time for it, and harassed.

 

You will have to check your owners manual but I think that the cats and all emmision equipment are warrantied until ~100k miles by fedral law. The exact number will be in your owners manual. Take a look you may be pleasantly surprised.
