Would You Still Buy A Subaru??

After this car I will be deffinetly adding tranny to the top of my list to look for in a car.
I hope your warrenty covers that. Cause that shouldn't happen.
hell yes
I found i-club and other sites 9 months before I got my wrx, and they served to educate me about everything I could expect from owning a subie, both pros and cons. I guess the pros won. My car is the best thing I own.
I'm on my second Subaru, and I will probably eventually own another when I finally kill this WRX.
The transmision is really the only "weak link" in the WRX, and its only weak if you insist on abusing it with power-mods and drop-starts. (Aside from the 1st gear syncro that we all hate...)
On the other hand, the rest of the car is a BEAST. I spent a week recently pounding around on rocky, rutted umpaved backroads. By my own admission, I savagely abused that car; we bottomed out and bounced off the cieling dozens of times; my undercarrage looks like I spend a day hitting it with a sledgehammer. Any other car (assuming it was still even running) would have been sporting sixteen new rattles and vibrations.
After I replaced the two wheels I bent, and got an allignment done, the WRX drives like it always has, and feels as solid as if I had never bounced it over four mountain ranges.
These things are more than just fast.

I'm going to take it to my dealership in town to get it fixed, I think my mom and I have decided if they decide to deny the warrenty it might be bye bye subaru : ( I guess we'll find out on tuesday.
i have had TWO subies in the past and now I am in a 'transition' stage with a 98 protege. And I am considering a 05 subie right now or an used 01 subie.
I've seen this forum before I purchased my two previous subies.

Honestly, serious problems are VERY rare unless serious abuse is done. If you dont abuse the tranny you wont have any problems, even with some modifications. My father has a subaru with almost 60k miles and he LOVES it, never had a problem with it. He actually prefers an old 98 wagon over a 02 highlander, he says the AWD in the subie owns the highlanders 4wd.

I'm on my 3rd Legacy GT Wagon the first was a 98' had it for 34,000 miles, traded it on a 00' just traded it on the best yet, a 05 GT Wagon. Since July 2nd I have been having great fun with it. This tranny is much better then the others. They have all been 5-speeds. This clutch feels much stronger and the STI shifter is a big plus. I have 2500 miles on this one, it's almost as much fun to drive as as my 240HP 1992 turboed Honda Civic.
I will say that had Honda built this type of car I would still be with them. But I don't want a SUV but I have a great need for a AWD car and can't afford a Audi with all there maintenance problems.
My 00' GT Wagon had problems like leaking sun roofs drain tube's, big brake job at 48,000, had to have the throw out bearing shaft machined at 66,000 miles and broken scynro's. But other then that it ran fine for the 76,000 in 4 years.

Yes, I would. I need a larger car for the family, but I want more power. Can we say Legacy GT wagon?
As far as station wagons go, there really aren't any reliable choices out there except subaru.

Yep. I had a WRX which was working perfectly when I sold it to get a Legacy GT. I also owned two XTs back in the early 90s, which I really liked. The problem with people saying things like "the WRX transmission has problems" or "breaks easily" or whatever is that you only hear about the problems. Nobody talks about the thousands and thousands of WRXs that don't have any problems, do they? So for that reason I think the whole thing is kind of overblown. I like Subarus a lot and will buy them as long as the cars suit my driving tastes. The Legacy GT is really perfect for me.
Considering all the cars on the market for around the same price or less...yeah I still would have purchased my04 STi over all the rest. If I could afford it I'd get a WRX or Legacy wagon too.

Well no, he's not wrong. He said it was very rare, not that it never happens. You have a 4th gear that grinds, but there are thousands and thousands of WRX owners whose 4th gear is fine, including mine. That's the point, the problem affects a miniscule amount of the total amount of WRXes. That doesn't make it right, Subaru should still take care of it, but it's very far from a widespread epidemic, or something all Subarus or even just all WRXes have in common.

You're right it's not an epidemic yet, but I think it's pretty bad in that maybe about 3 that I know of for sure maybe more out of about 20 wrx's in town that have something wrong with their tranny, that's a 15% failure rate 3 out of 20. That's a bad ratio. Now if you take that ballpark figure out of all the WRX's out there, that's alot of problems, yes there are still more good ones out there, but about a 15% rate is pretty darn bad to me. I know this is just my city, but that's just too much for me, so basically the rate where I live is probably in a range from 10% to 20% who knows but even 10% is bad. Maybe it's just where I live, who knows, just too many problems that I said before, Subaru should be attacking this issue more agressively, and not giving a good bunch of people a hard time, we'll find out how they treat me today.
