I did this, not so deep, and found water under my carpet about 2 weeks later when it started to smell bad. No idea where the water came in.

Also I'm not sure how the rear differntial is vented but my fluid was very dirtry when I had it changed shortly after.

If you do a deep water crossing it's probably wise to get your fluids changed soon afterwards. Engine, transmission and differential.

it still affects it. there is more to take into account than outer diameter. difference in weight and width (contact patch) also put extra wear on your differentials

Here's one not everyone knows, and that I learned the hard way when I first bought my car. Due to the aluminium hood on the WRX, it dents REAL easy. Bring the hood down to about 3 inches or so above closing, then let it drop. If you push it down you'll probably put a small dent in your hood.

Speaking of the WRX hood, do not use the old style bug deflector that Subaru used to sell for the 02 and 03 model years. It will fit all Imprezas of those model years but the deflector re-directs the airflow over the hood scoop, making the intercooler less effective when the car is in motion. Subaru now markets a bug deflector with that upturned lip removed so the air enters the WRX scoop as it was designed.

here's one I learned this morning. unlike most cars, the wrench provided in the standard toolkit that comes for changing tires doesn't turn the jack. instead, there's a crank arm for the jack that is attached to the underside of the board covering the spare tire.

I hadn't ever had to use the spare on my car and had to consult the owners manual to find the crank arm

The center air vents on early imprezas, mine is a 93, comes out with only two screws. If you leave the screws out it pops in and out easily. Best place i have ever seen on a car to hide things. So if you ever need a stash spot for anything check it out.

Wingless (or anyone else). I have an 04 and have had it since the beginning of the year. Is there any way that I can know what that number is? I broke in my car like a gem and when I always warm up / cool down before and after drives (be they spirited or grocery runs).

If "that number" you're referring to is wheel horsepower for a stock EJ20, it's around 160 whp as measured on a Dyno Dynamics AWD chassis dynamometer.

You could go to S-Squared and get a baseline dyno printout. That way any mods and power improvements you do to your wagon will be measured on the same dyno. It's too wacky trying to compare runs on different dynos.

On the sedan, if you don't want to leave fingerprints on/scratch your trunklid when you close it, there's a plastic handle on the backside of the trunklid which (with some practice) allows you to close the trunk without touching the outside of the trunklid.

I know at least my 04 wrx has a spare thats the same diameter as all the other tires so it doesn't affect the AWD system. I assumed it would be true for all subarus.

i didn't know subaru still did that.
