You judge a car by what kind of light bulb is in the taillight?

Janq,
I just read this whole thread. I like you to know I am impressed at how much knowledge you have on both cars being discussed and how intelligently you are comparing them.
Very few people are unbias and knowledgeable like yourself when it comes to cars now a days.
I appreciate your style.
Bottom line:
The G35c is a luxury coupe with sporty equipment that perform really well. This car focus on being luxurious and comfortable, its sporty nature is to provide a little fun for its owner occasionally. Having an upscale image is also very important for its potential buyer.
The WRX STi is a dedicated performance car, that are designed specifically for hardcore car enthusiasts that doesn't care much for image and how people look at them on the street. It didn't compromise any performance for luxury or try to make itself look upscale. It has an expensive price tag only because the car is jam packed with a lot of expensive equipment.
Even though their performance data on paper are somewhat similar, they are 2 extremely different cars. Their targeted customer are 2 groups of entirely different people.

btw pay attention to the back of a g35 when it breaks.. the way the lights instantly illuminate in contrast to other car's incondescent bulbs warming up, its a subtle and powerful style-add. I had to put the leds in my wrx myself and they caused my cruise control and abs to not work - not nearly as elegent

I understand what you are saying. Believe me I know exactly what you are talking about, the instant illumination of LED brake lights are indeed very nice. I have been seeing this on quite a few fancy car on the street now.
I was just trying to say, what kind of light bulbs in the taillight is the last thing I care about when I am picking out a car. But like you said, I would be very happy if that is a standard equipment.
May I ask what kind of LEDs you put into your WRX to caused your cruise control and abs to not work? I tried putting some PIAA LEDs into my car also, but I found them to be very dim, so I took them back out. It didn't caused me any problem.

Thanks JDM nut!
In my case I'm not a die hard track nerd nor am I a tuner boy or a style ****. I'm just a guy who appreciates vehicles for what they are and understands that their are limitations to every thing, and that there is always something better/faster/quicker/cheaper, etc.
As for the STi vs. G35 debate, I'm just split down the middle on this. Both vehicles appeal to me equally both with 'lust' as well as 'reason'. I'm sure/hoping its the test drive that will seal the deal for me one way or the other.
Based on what I know and have researched I think its the STi thats going to win me over although I'll have to accept & live with its short comings in comparison to the G35 (luxury items and 'MoMA' style & design).
Either vehicle though is a 'Best Buy' in their respective classes and one couldn't go wrong even if they were to simply flip a quarter to decide.

In my case, although I am also not a die hard track nerd. I am somewhat of a tuner boy, I love very sporty car full of name brand racing equipment...... Brembo/Potenza/Momo/STi/BBS/Recaro........ you get my point. So the STi is the clear choice for me. Actually I am still deciding between the STi and the EVO.
You are one of the rare few that likes both the luxury and very technical high performance equipment. As you said, I am sure the test drive will seal the deal for you.
You are right, they are both best car for their targeted customer.

Expect to see LED technology used more often as the prices for this technology has dropped considerably and designers are just now taking advantage of the many packaging options they provide. Just as with HID head lamps the use of LED tail lamp and brake lamp assemblies is a real although passive 'performance' enhancing item. LED's more quickly alert drivers of your intent to begin braking possibly preventing a rear end collison or avoiding a sudden stop.
Down the road we'll begin to see entire grids of LED's in combination with parabolic mini-mirrors to act as headlights that are both directional (follow the steering path) as well as programmable to do things such as illuminate instructions for the driver on to the road surface ahead via the lighting system.
The OEM suppliers Visteon and Hella both provide briefs on automotive LED signalling and marker assemblies.

See Lexus concept - it has those LEDS up front!
Popular mechanics may 2003 issue has a 3 page article about it, they also saying 2005 GS will have those lights standard...

The LED units have a near instant on ability, give off more lumens (visible light power) at a lower wattage, have a cooler surface temperature as compared to incandescent bulbs, last extremely long as compared to incandescent bulbs, are not as susceptible to shock & temperature extremes, and require much less packaging space allowing designers to maximize interior space (under trunk & hood) while increasing exterior design flexibility.

I personally find LED's to be better for headlights than HID's.
