congrats.. Lotus - wow, nice..
Yes, same here, I pretty much decided on STi.. If she digs me for G35 reason, then she is not the one I want. If she digs me and not my flashy car, they u r the one...

Nice cars are great ways to meet women.
If you ain't got no skills it won't go anywhere anyways, and the women you meet aren't girls you would want to settle down with. .. but if you're young and want to have fun .. there ain't nothin better than a flash car ... The more flash the better.
Take it from one that knows. My first car was a Lotus Esprit SE.
After many bad turns I realized that those aren't the women I want ... but that's just me. Some people may be happy with shallow hollow women looking for their MRS with the right (welathy) man. I'm not. For the last two years I've been using a a pick-up truck for daily driving.
... so I'm getting an STi

Drove a G35 Coupe 6MT this weekend (18" wheels, Brembo brakes).
My sales guy was cool and encouraged me to push it where safe.
Impressions:
The car has more than enough grunt and handles really well. I like the balance of ride, stiffness and cornering, along with the great engine/transmission combo. Fast and tight, without being punishing, much like my wife's BMW. Great overall package balance.
Car looks great from a distance, but feels a little large/out of balance from closer up.
I do not like the stability program settings. Too invasive. Any slip and the engine almost seems to cut out completely. It was disconcerting, but brought the car back in line. It can, of course, be turned off
The quality of the dash materials was disappointing, but you can't have everything for such a reasonable price.
My 5'2" wife was perfectly comfortable in the back seat, and I would only be hauling kids anyway, so from that standpoint it works (4 doors better than 2 for kids though).
I did not climb on the brakes because I didn't want to ruin this guy's unseated brakes since he was so nice to let me drive it aggressively, but they seemed great from what I could tell.
The transmission slotted in perfectly under aggressive driving and I thought the spacing was ideal for the engine torque (I find the Acura TSX to be too tight, but it only has 166 lb ft torque). The engine was so flexible and the gears spaced so well that I felt there wouldn't be undue gearwork putting around town.
The seats were very comfortable and the stereo sounded decent.
Engine and exhaust noises were nice too. The engine compartment is nothing to look at. Yeck!
BTW, 36 mo, 12K miles lease residual is 54.
I think the car is a GREAT deal and a wonderful balance of comfort, performance and utility if you need to pop people in the back from time to time.
When I got back in my WRX, I felt much less pampered, but enjoyed the return to rawness.
Looked at an STi too. I was disappointed. Before you flame, read on. It's the same tinny WRX with great performance systems added. I always found the door slam test disappointing in the WRX and the STi is no different. Also, the seats are not nearly as good as the Evo's. Not even CLOSE, at least for my ****.
My disclaimer here is that my sales guy was borderline insane and put me off. I couldn't look at the car in peace without him spouting crap about the differential, the sprayer or the adjustible HIDs (items I see as nice, but non essential and wouldn't sway my decision).
Now, after driving it, I might feel TOTALLY different, but I am coming to an age where the balance of the G35 might appeal to me over the raw performance of the STi.
Anyway, my $0.02.

Cmlnr,
That was both a good and _accurate_ review.
As folks know I too had an opportunity to drive the G35C this past Friday & Saturday, in both auto and 6MT, as well as go for a 'Test Ride' in an STi (thanks to new owner 'Meridoc' of NASIOC who I found to be a very nice guy).
Anyway family/baby stuff, and prior commitments (paintball tournament all day Sunday) as well as work have kept me from posting my own findings as I had originally planned to do some writing this weekend. My own review with a complete comparison & contrast is forthcoming. Hopefully I can slap it together tonight and if not it'll be later this week.
Your assesment of the G35C is very similar to my own experience, especially so with the 6MT in regard to the effects of the VDC.
I disabled the VDC during my runs and found things to be a bit more interesting as they always seem to be when the safety net is removed.
Without knowing (or asking) your age I have to say that at 33 y/old I'm thinking & feeling the same as you. We both will be hated on and flamed for saying so publicly and being honest but to hell with it, fact is both cars bring a lot to the table for the money.
Anyone that disagrees or says differently hasn't been in or driven the G35C, and/or is being close minded. And for the G35C & STi to cost nearly the same really makes the decision process all the more punishing.

I've been drivng G's everyday of this week...and damn if they aren't sweet. Both the automatic and the 6MT are nice though the 6MT is by far the 'enthusiasts' choice.
