G35C 6MTvs. 350Z Track vs M3 SMGII
AMDMAXX,
At 'FreshAlloy.com' there is a nice vid of all three battling out a three lap race at the Tsukuba Circuit.
Click here to go to the FreshAlloy thread.
I think you and any other G fan will be pleasantly surprised at the results...

I was hoping to read that the G35 is a balance of luxury and performance. I don't see how a car so fundamentally similar to a 350Z could be called luxury first, performance as an afterthought.
Anyway, I will be driving a G35 this weekend.
I hope it's good. I am leaning away from Evo/STi toward G35 these days, if I don't say screw it and buy a BMW, or say screw it the other way and buy a Honda Civic (no joke!), or an Acura TSX.

suuure you would, because girls car so much about cars...
Thats right, if you're a geek that sits in front of you're computer all day staring at pictures of cars you cant afford, driving one will really get you laid!

Further the G35C is nothing more than a well appointed 350Z 2+2. If it had a Nissan label (which it does in Japan) I would still be looking at it just as hard and I bet folks wouldn't be so quick to write it off as a poseur, which it definitely is not.
In fact the G35C is marketed in its homemarket as a "Fairlady Z Skyline 2+2" while the 350Z is sold as the "Fairlady Z".
The car comes equipped with either a base touring suspension with a decent manumatic or as an option the same enigne, drivetrain (minus the trick CF driveshaft) and suspension (plus 18" rims) that the 350Z 'Track' model has that everyone is drooling over. All this and it comes with leather surfaces and a nice Bose stereo stock. Whats not to like?! Its a better buy/value with more equipment than the Z 'Track' model and costs less to boot. Oh, and my local Inifiniti parts & service guy says that the 250Z and G35C make the _exact_ same HP & TQ but so that the Z was perceived as "top dog" they purposefully stste lower power numbers for the G.
To call the G35C "sporty" is also an understatement, especially when it blows off the V8 Cobra in a C&D comparo and can run with an M3 (see the links I posted earlier) and hangs just a tick behind the 350 Z Track model.
Feedback and reactions from folks such as 'Nut' are almost always full of commentary that makes folks like us out to be crazy/stupid for considering it. They act as though its more comparable to the Volvo C70 (coupe) which costs $10K more or some other bloated under powered weak kneed gray haired mobile for fans of Ensure drinks. Well, their wrong. Don't believe me though. Just take a look at what _all_ the reviewers from the major/respectable trade rags have to say including; C&D, Autoweek, MotorWeek (TV), Automobile and to varying degrees Motor Trend and Road & Track.
I'm currently split right down the middle on my decision between STi and G35C for meeting my all-around needs. If I needed or wanted a track only car i'd be looking at a used Miata or an EVO. If I wanted a sunday cruiser and something to retain my sense of youth I'd be looking at an M3. If I were only out to impress the neighbors, my employees and clients then it'd be easy with an SC430 or just about anything with a three pointed star. If I only needed a comfy family get-a-bout I'd go for an Accord V6 sedan,.
But the fact is myself and others need all of these items wrapped into one and would like the total package to be cost effective and reliable to boot. We'll it just so happens Nissan provides that all in one answer in the from of the Infiniti G35C 6MT.
Everyone on this board knows about the STi so I won't reiterate the obvious but it too is a good value to meet most if not all of the above considerations, only in a package more weighted toward ultimate performance than comfort and acceptibility when giving your #1 customer a lift to lunch.
I'll be testing driving the G35C 6MT tomorrow (appt. at 3PM) and riding along in a new owners STi tomorrow evening. I'll post a complete report of both as well as a comparison/contract over the weekend.
I hope this helps...and best of luck in your decision.

If you don't know that then you have'nt yet made it to high school.
In general women could give a care about a cars particulars.
Yes, of course there are some notable exceptions and aberratins but for the most part statistically speaking most gals don't care about VTEC, AVCS, DCCD or stuff of that matter. When is the last time you saw a female grease monkey, who was hot. About as often as you've shaken hands with Einstein or been to the moon.
Women are less turned on by the mechanics as they are either the look (Jaguar XJS), feel (any convertible), smell (any new car with leather) and sense of comfort (any guy driving something rare, expensive or that looks rare or expensive). Plus they care about looking cool to the chagrin of their girlfriends...and every woman deep down inside wants a little excitement.
Call it what you will; shallow, hollow, low budget, gold digger, skeezer, whatever. The facts are the facts.
How many bus pass owning homeless guys do you know of with hot girlfriends/wives that you and your buddies drool over?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Further why do you think some of the ugliest men in America who also by chance happen to be wealthy have the biggest toys and best eye candy on their shoulders? Reason being, gals know that those guys can take care of them and fill their needs as well as those of their children. Its a basic precept that applies everywhere and is evident in eveything living man, beast and even insects.
So make all the jokes you want about boys in darkened rooms watching Playboy TV. Take a look around see where the gals are and aren't. They ain't at the Plymouth Valiant Owners of America car club or walking the floors of the SEMA show drooling over dubs and amps.
Subaru STi's will get you respect and stares from fellow gearheads and tech-dudes but the G35 will gain draw the eyes of that cute honey-dip you run into every so often at the elevator.
Take your pick.
I don't make the rules, I just play by them.

wow,
this is a really long thread. i originally came here to read up abit on the sti, but decided i'd offer up my $0.02. my father-in-law is #2 on his list, moving up from a wrx and he relies on me for this kinda stuff. i promise i won't troll.
the wife and i purchased the g35 sedan back in 8/02. that was moving up from a 96 2dr auto accord cpe and a 95 mitsubishi gsx. needless to say we're loving every minute of it, we almost bought an is300 in favor of it. now that the coupe is out, my wife yearns for the 2 doors again, but at this time in our life it's just not practical.
the g35c is damn sexy for it's price. g35's in general really are bang for the buck. you all know the pros, so i'll add some cons. the interior is a little lacking if it's to be placed in the luxo market, but coming from an accord, it's still a major step up. the stereo is, well, bose. while most car manufacturers allow the ability to upgrade, it's a little more difficult when it comes to the bose system. if you get the premium package, the hvac is tied into the radio. currently, pricing is a bit steep on the coupe, but i'd imagine that will drop within a few months. as for awd, i believe the sedan is the only one getting the awd. and i believe it's slated to be released in december.
in the end, we're ecstatic w/ our purchase. sure occasionally i yearn for more sport/power/etc, but at this stage in our life, we're very happy w/ our choice. the smooth ride, cushy seats, and great amenities make trips to the burbs very enjoyable. the nice thing is, that should we feel the need for the raw power, my father-in-law's *soon to be* sti is only 15 minutes away, as is my sister-in-law's wrx
janq,
i'm sorry to hear about your experience at nissan, but if it makes you feel any better, i get that reaction all the time. i was also at the ny auto show and can verify what you saw w/ both manufacturer's displays, it was funny to say the least.
i truly do wish you the best of luck w/ your decision, however if i were in your position, i'd figure out which i like more (51/49), and then buy the latter when the market gets better and when the price comes down.

good luck-

Nice cars are great ways to meet women.
If you ain't got no skills it won't go anywhere anyways, and the women you meet aren't girls you would want to settle down with. .. but if you're young and want to have fun .. there ain't nothin better than a flash car ... The more flash the better.
Take it from one that knows. My first car was a Lotus Esprit SE.
After many bad turns I realized that those aren't the women I want ... but that's just me. Some people may be happy with shallow hollow women looking for their MRS with the right (welathy) man. I'm not. For the last two years I've been using a a pick-up truck for daily driving.
... so I'm getting an STi
