Amdmaxx,
While out and about doing errands today my wife and I returned to our car and guess what was parked right next to us?
A brand new (VA temp plates) white G35 Coupe (non track/no Brembo's but it did have the 18"s, chromed!...sweet) with an aero kit (rear wing). Freshly washed & waxed gleaming big time.
We're walking down the end of an aisle next to Best Buy and I see a group of 3 guys and a girl standing around my SUV and I think "Oh, here we go again" as our Pilot gets tons of attention and admiration from folks everywhere we go. People love it to see the DVD player. Anyway...
As I get closer I notice the wing sticking out just past the rear of my car. Iwalk up and they people are staring at the G and are all up into it nose to glass. My wife recognized it right off and said "Isn't this that car you're looking at?" (my wife never recognizes cars!). I was like yeah, this or the STi. It was beautiful. We stood and drooled for a few moments ourselves.
But then I get home check my PC and I got a link for this on the STi sitting in my mailbox from a friend; STi Dealer Information
Oh Lord!!!
This STi vs. G thing is going to be one tough cookie to crack.
I didn't get a chance to test drive anythign today as my daughter was acting up most of the day (4 month old teething fits!).
But as soon as I do I'll post a complete report...but I am sooooo looking forward to the STi too.
I'm out...

OMG, sweet.
You know how the M3 has the 'SMG' option.
We'll Subie being net savvy and intune with we gearheads who it seems are all on the net could/should market the STI as coming 'standard' with the "OMG" option! The "OMG option" includes; 300/300 2.5L turbo/DCCD-A/6spd/Front & rear locking diffs/Brembos.
Attn.: Subaru;
I'm an ex-employee in good standing (10 years with SOA Mid-Atlantic region). If you're listening/watching/reading, PM me as I'll sell you my novel marketing idea for cheap. Cost: Just one free STi!!!
Hey, they shamelessly ripped off the 'Legacy' nameplate from Acura and the then king of the hill 'Legend'.
Why not?!
I might consider getting my license plate with it; "WRX OMG"

I haven't checked the boards yet but M3 owners have got to be sweating off their collective nut sacks!
I knew Subie was going to up market this toward the M3.
Back in February I posted a statement saying just as much at a Bimmer board and got nothing but laughs and jeers.
Well as the old saying goes; "He who laughs last, laughs loudest".
Brrrraahhhhh ha ha ha ha....ha!

How's it working for you poking fingers into beehives?
But read back...I said;
"Back in February I posted a statement saying just as much at a Bimmer board and got nothing but laughs and jeers."
Tell me where I'm "wrong".
Oh, and I didn't make the post at Roadfly.com/M3 (E46) as you did.
I'm not an M3 fan, but I respect them. I was at an M5 owners board that has a ton of M3 enthusiasts and owners (their wives/kids). I was only proposing the STi as an option for a secondary/back-up vehicle.
Their responses and opinions of Subie were to blow it off entirely. Stuff about its a nice car to run out and pick-up "wine & cheese" during the early morning and other ridiculous crap.
Geez...these people are so full of it.
Anyway, the reponse you got at Roadfly is not surprising and to be expected. Much the same as ivy league grads blowing off lesser public colleges as not being good. Its really a justification for the money spent and to maintian an air of 'exclusivity' and pretentiousness of their precious school and themselves for paying four times what others pay for the same knowledge.
Meanwhile whether you attend Harvard, Princeton UMass, Boston U or Northern VA Community College...2+2 always equals 4, the Earth always revolves around the Sun, and the STi will hang with any M3...and on a good day against a less than professional driver poosibly beat it as the number differ by only a single tenth of a second. After 100 mph though is anyones guess as we don't yet have concrete (and "researched") numbers.

Modded STi should kill M3..
Lets wait for mods..
Ye, If I had extra 60k laying around I wouldnt even look @ STi, But right now 60k buys me STi (or G35 coupe), Anthem pre/pro, 300 wattsx7 channels amp, Rocket speakers, and a 20k downpayment for an apartment/condo...

Sincerely there is no disrespect intended in the following.
And I'm not being glib or witty as I am known to get times.
Being 100% serious....it's not a smart short term or long term financial move to buy a $30K+ car prior to investng in yourself through securing a place to live. Whether it be an apt., condo, townhouse, whatever...a home.
Further, I would strongly suggest you to reconsider your funds allocation plans as the cash for the car plus the remaining $30K you speak of could be used toward a downpayment on a home.
Today's home lending rates are at the absolute lowest you will see in a very very very long time.
Take advantage of the time now while you can afford to.
Five years from now when the economy gets its gears rolling again and the artificially lowered rates bounce back to 'normal' it'll be quite expensive to equate with todays buying power.
A car and stereo equipment will be worth less in five years than the same in cash or equity in a home.
Again, no disrespect intended. Just a bit of free advice.
Of course your cash is your own to do with what with you please.
Yopur local tax consultant or personal finance advisor can fil in the blanks for you.

Janq, I must admit, I too am having some anxiety over squandering some 60,000 + Canadian dollars on one of the worst invetments anyone can make. My wife and I are not rich but we make a half-decent buck. I already own a home (condo in downtown Toronto) but keep thinking buying a second dwelling would obviously be a wiser move. (for rental purposes). Or, I could renovate our cottage, AND get a new BBQ, AND a new dock for all that money and still have some left over.... sheesh, I'm getting squirmish as the time draws near. I just hope resale on this vehicle will be higher than most cars out there...

Some vehicles may dpereciate less quickly than others but they all (99%) depreciate at some rate within some duration.
If in doubt consult with your local tax and/or personal finance advisor for more info.
An STi is more toy/guilty pleasure than essential transportation.
Same goes for the G35. A Toyota Echo (boring!) is transportation.
If one is fortunate enough to mix the two, then hey why not.
Plus, if I were you I'd go south of the border and pickup a US Subie and bring her back home. The fees & tariffs and fines can't be nearly as bad as paying Canadian retail, right?!?

^^ I could look into buying one south of Border. I have many relatives there too. But it's only about $1200 US difference. And i think it's worth paying the extra dough for all the aggravation I'd have to go through. Plus, I really WANT a back seat passthrough, heated seats, and a stereo while I save funds to purchase a good audio system.
