STi audio set-ups...
also check out Xtant amps, there lower models are pretty crappy but their higher stuff is just plain sick, very very very clean power
and JL audio has amps too, they arent the cleanest power, but they are under-rated, as is all of JL's stuff

Yeah Eclispe head units are real nice. I have had 2 Alpine head units they worked great but both started to have some trouble with the buttons. It was just like one or two buttons wouldn't work right sometimes. It might have been me, I don't know. I haven't had much experience with Blaupunkt so I can't say to much about them. by the way I worked for bosch thats the only reason why I know they make them. hope that helps some.

2-DIN UNits?
Are there any decent 2 DIN Units that look decent? I like the way the Subaru stereo (Clarion?) fits in the dash filling both slots. I just looks like it "fits". THe colors match, and no flashy lights.
As nice as the Alpines single DIN units are, I think they look slightly out of place in the STi, almost too much digital display
Are there any 2-DIN units out there that look and perform decent? The only ones I have come across that are available in the US market, ar by Kenwood, and Clarion. I don't think either look that great.
I would get the Subaru stereo, but it doesn't play MP3's and is too expensive for the quality.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Trebz

Ah yes... double DIN head units are nice but would that take up all the space for a 6.5" LCD monitor?
Also, I too think most decks are too digital looking with all that flash. The buttons also are usually kind of lose on these units too. Basically the fit and finish of these units suck making them feel kind of chinsy. I'd rather a nice solid basic head unit with dials that one full of buttons and a glam-rock look. Something like that Pioneer one.

I don't know if anyone noticed on the 360 degree view, but it looks like there is a spot for a tweeter to mount directly in front of the door handle. If there is an opening there, I will go with separate components for up front(JL Audio). Does the regular WRX have that opening?
This is just my opinion......if youre thinking about Boston 3ways you have no business looking at Blaupunkt decks
I'm just wondering...how much are you planning to spend and how will the bostons be installed? You're probably looking at around $1000 to purchase and install the 6.53 in kickpanels. If you want audiophile sound you might want to consider Bostons new Z-series components. I have 5.5pros and the Z made them sound bad. They are hands down the best I've ever heard (but everyone has a different ear). They retail for $1k a set but the install will be much easier.
The others are right when they say you need clean power and a lot of it. With the right cross-over settings you won't be able to give Boston components too much power (they handle up to 400w). And no offense but don't buy one of the those "claimed" 1000w amps that sell for $300. You should purchase the best amps you can find because you WILL hear a difference in you components. I would probably recommend Rockford power series, JL, high end Phoenix gold, and Xtant. Xtant has a new line of full range class D mono amps (I believe its 1.1) that are rock solid. They are very small (increasing installation options), extremely efficient (draw less current), and sound very clean. They are rated at 100w (real power, actually underrated power) and because they are mono (1 channel) you'll need two for each set of speakers (left and right channel). I think they are selling for $300 each (600 a pair)......but if you are seriously considering something like the 6.53 you should get the most out of them.
DONT SKIMP ON THE AMP

Whoa.
Let me try and get a few things straight first.
You say the Z series is better bu t I only see two speakers. Where are the others. This is only a two way speaker. where the 6.5 are three way. Just wondering becuae I'm certainly no expert here.
You don't recommend Alpine amps? So I should check into Rockford, Phoenix and Xtant amps? And you recommend one per pair of speakers as opposed to one. It makes sense I guess.
Most importantly, are you sure the 6.5 or the Z series can fit in a WRX and STi? Is there room for them?
Thanks for your post. Very informative.

it seems that most mono amps are designed with subs in mind, for speakers the 2 channel amps are better. but yeah, DONT SKIMP ON AN AMP!!!
also, if amping everything, i think eclipse decks are the only way to go, they stomp everything out there when it comes to clarity and the 16v preouts are sick. but if you plan to not amp rear speakers, you will need a deck with regular speaker outputs too.
it also seems to me that $1 per watt of power is a good amp, not always, but just a general rule. example: 1000w xtant = $1000
500w JL = $500 make sense to anyone?

^^Seems to make sense about the amps.
What I'm thinking now is going with Blaupunkt for Everything. The reason: I can get an awesome deal on their stuff. I'm pretty much decided on their Head Unit "San Fransisco CD72" and their high end amps (2 of them) Now I will research the quality of their speakers. If they suck I'll stick with the "Z" series Boston Acoustics...
