STi audio set-ups...
I now am going with this...
My headunit will be either a Pioneer or Alpine. My amp will be a Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4
Speakers will definitely be "Focals" Utopias or one under.
What do you think?

If you dont know what 2,3,4 channels mean I am guessing you dont know much about car audio.
Channels are "speakers". So if you have 4 speakers (2 in the front 2 in the back) and you want them to all be powered by an AMP you will need a 4 channel amp.
I would stay away from Blaupunkt products. Audiovox owns Blaupunkt.
If you are looking to spend about $300 on a headunit I would get

Alpine In-Dash CD Player/Ai-Changer Controller - CDA9807/ 50W x 4 MOSFET Amplifier/ Bass Engine®/ Subwoofer Level Control With Phase Selector/ XM Satellite Radio Ready/ MP3, WMA, CD-R/RW Playback/ 2 Color Display
and for an amp...

Alpine 5 Channel Amplifier - MRVF450/ 240W x 2 + 370W x 1 Bridged 4 Ohms Max Power/ 12V RMS Continuous Power 4ohm/ Bass Engine®/ S/N Ratio 100dBA/ 10-50kHz Frequency Response/ Extra Large Gold Plated Terminals With Wire Insert Capability/ Top Panel Power LED/ DC-DC/PWM MOSFET Power Supply
That is a 5 channel amp so you can run an entire system off one amp. 4 speakers and 1 or 2 subs.

pioneers super tuner III is supposed to be one of the best ones out there, but after listening to three different pioneer decks in three different cars, i am convinced that it is not very good at all.

Wow, all of a sudden lots of replies. Thanks a lot guys for all this feedback; this is helping immensly by getting other opinions. I know a little bit about car audio (lot more than I did) and I thought reference to channels on amps reffered to how many speakers it could power but I wasn't sure becaue it just seemed strange to have an amp with just one/two channels.
It's good to know Blaupunkt is owned by Bosch and good to know that the 6.5's require lots of clean power (how do you know this?) I'm not set on a Blaupunkt deck, I could go alpine I just heard Blaus have great tuner reception and quality.

So with 3 way speakers like the BA 6.5 pro series, would that require a 3 channel amp or a six channel amp?
Better yet, what would be the recommended alpine amp for these 6.5 speakers?

boston is a great brand for speakers
the reason some amps have one or two channel is for subwoofers, and also, most 4 channel amps arent as clean and high power as a 2 channel amp. get an amp made for speakers to power speakers and an amp for subs to power subs(i think speakers is class a and b, not sure though, sub amp is class d, althought they have an electronic amp that is another class for subs too, not sure about letter classes)
hope i am not too confusing, i never know how to word things
if your going to be amping everything, you might want to take a look at eclipse decks. their higher models only have preouts, which is not good for the normal joe, but if everything is amped it is killer, they have like 16v preouts vs the normal 4v outs that everyone claims they have. just make sure if you get the eclipse that the amp you get can handle the 16v preout input
