Valentine 1 custom install questions
Just wondering if anyone has ever taken apart a valentine one, extended wires, and mounted the sensors in the grill and in the back window.
I'd like to do this and have the remote display built in so that it doesn't appear that I have a radar detector, but cant find anything about anyone ever doing it on any car.
It should work, right? Wouldn't it just be opening it up, popping the sensors off, extending the cables, waterproofing the whole deal, and mounting it all?
for any info you may have.

No, you can't do this with the Valentine. However the next best thing is to mount the unit up above the rear view mirror where it isn't readily visible (and this is the best location for performance anyway), and install the remote display so the main unit remains dark.
Genius or no, the V1 wasn't designed to be remoted this way. Of course anything can be done with enough time and money, but in this case it would not be worth the expenditure of either. And, as I mentioned the best warning range/performance is obtained with the detector mounted as high as possible, so you'd be sacrificing optimum range for the stealth factor.
Should this be your most important requirement for a detector, there are remotable units available as pointed out in the second post. I believe K-40 makes one and there are others. They aren't cheap though.

All of the major companies have remote setups, bel, escort, Valentine, but K40 is the only one to not use a remote display, instead it uses a pair of LEDs in the location of your choice and a speaker under the dash. The newest gen of K40 is very interesting as it uses bluetooth for the components to talk to the brain. No running harnesses all over the place in the car, just switched power.
The downside to all of the big dog setups are price. The cheapest setup is a little over $1000 retail. The newst K40 will run you closer to $2k with all of the options.

If you are gonna try this I would definitely get an electrical genius to help you because it doesn't sound very easy.

I've seen the k40's, but arrows > *
I might just do something like Egan, but I'd rather have it not visible at all... even if you look for it.
