When you say gauge pod do you mean the speedo or the hatch one in the center of the dash?

It depends on where you want to put the main unit. Do you want it up high by the rear view mirror or down low by the dash? If you want it up high then you can use the map lights (but I think that will be on all the time) if you want it down by the dash, then I say tap into the cig lighter wires. That's switched and will come on with the key.

Just hard wired my V1 this week...use the map lights (there's a post with a pic in 'interior, exterior, & lighting,' I just posted to the wrong forum...

There is a switched 12V wire up by the map lights that comes on and off with ignition...I explained it in my post...here's the link:
