Ignition upgrade?
Hi everyone,
I recently had my car jacked and torn apart... so the whole ignition is going to be replaced. Since the whole thing is being replace I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade from the standard 02' WRX ignition which I quess is quite easy to break into, to the 05' ignition which has a coded key and makes the car not able to start with out said key.
Do any of you think this is reasonably feasible?
If so what do you think I would have to have the body shop repairing the car do to make it happen?
Thank you all for you help =)

Not really, the immobilizer used in the '05 (STi only) is integrated into the vehicle electronics and not just the ignition. There is no practical way to retrofit this system on your 02 WRX.
Your best bet is a well-installed alarm along with multiple, independent layers of protection such as a fuel kill switch separate from the alarm.

they do sell aftermarket immobilzers...
not just the TRICK ones that come on the STis, corvettes, etc with the transponder.
a simple starter cut off switch (well on a manual tranny, not so helpful) works.
an alarm with a backup battery and a very loud siren INSIDE the car does wonders.
if you do a FUEL CUT OFF switch, make sure it WONT fail while you are driving...
