i was lookin into the focal 165v2 component set for my STi. I was wondering if anybody has experience with those?? Do i need a spacer kit??
I saw on iaperformance that there was an application for that type of component set. Is the spacer kit REQUIRED for fitment??
Netzero, i overheard u saying that no spacer kit was required on your component set, and on iaperformance, there was a application for your slims.. im kinda confused wether or not to order the spacer kit

The focal 165v2 mids are 2.8 deep, you will need at least a 3/4 inch spacer for this to fit. It fits in my MY99 Outback sport, i don't know if it's the same with the 04 STI though. If i where you take off your door panel and check the depthness to be sure what speakers you can put in.

jobs99 - would u know if the component set comes with additional hardware for installation incase the speaker is too long in depth?? and also for the tweeters, would it come with mounting brackets??
sorry for the million questions, i just dont want to buy the component set, begin installing it, and finding out its not gunna go in w/o additional mounting hardware

Ok, great perspectives. I listen to more rock oreinted stuff, some hip hop (old school), break beats, jam bands, live shows, Primus ,
i am thinking about MB QUART Premium PCE 213 5.25" 2-Way Component Speakers now, maybe the 6.5's....depends on depth and spacing

May be some MB Quart amps will do the trick? (No pun intended......)
Design and specs of these new amps looks pretty decent. But to be honest with you I havn't seen them out in shops yet. JL is pretty good too.
I just did my 6.5" Quarts (only Discus though, married life.......limited $$) on the Forester a couple of weeks ago, 2.4" depth. Fabricated a 3/4" MDF ring to make it fit. I don't even need do any cutting at all.
Initially I did check out IA performance and they are willing to ship me a set of prototype rings for 1/2 price but because I live in Canada the shipping cost make it very expensive for something that I can make in a couple of hours using simple tools (a jig saw is all you need). But the manager is a pretty nice guy though.

I have MB quarts,6 1/2, they are the best. They sound so sweet and clear, real nice fit, and an amp is not really needed. but i have a infinity digital BETA amp, which works very well
