speaker suggestions?

Hey, I'm looking to get a decent speaker setup for my 02 wrx that sounds good and isn't over the top in price... I was recommended to look into infinity door speakers and I was thinking of getting a single subwoofer so I can retain some useful trunk space. Any suggestions to the size/kind of speakers to put in (I dont know what size will fit :S)? also is it necessary to get an external amplifier for the door speakers AS WELL AS the subwoofer?? I'm a newbie when it comes to car audio and don't wanna spend money on something I dont need *cough persistant sales people cough*

btw: I will be replacing the deck as well (havent decided on what kind though..)

thanks

Edit: plz check 2nd page for new question..

Eclipse for the deck. Diamond Audio speakers are pretty nice. That is the setup I'd reccomend because they both come w/ a 3 year factory warranty. MB Quarts are pretty nice as well.

lesson #1: get the biggest speakers you can get for the fronts.

lesson #2: forget rear speakers. unless you carry passengers in the rear seat ALL the time and THEY PAY you to listen to music, you are just wasting money

lesson #3: buy a kick *** subwoofer

lesson #4: buy a kick *** amp to power the sub and the front speakers.

lesson #5: ebay is your friend...

thanks for the suggestions, i heard about that whole rear speaker thing, but I just dont want them to get scratchy when I turn the music up like they do right now (everything stock)... should I just get some cheap speakers and throw them in the back or will having a new deck magically resolve my concern??

I agree with this guy's thinking, I have 6.5 MB Quarts in the front and a 12" sub in the back, my system sounds awesome.

i have a thinking (huh????) on this.

if you are carrying passsengers, you really cant hear the radio over your conversations or visa versa. so why bother.

my reasoning is, and i come from a car audio competing background, is that unless REALLY properly done right, rear speakers tend to DRAG the image towards the rear of the vehicle.

even with a subwoofer... yeah i know, i know... subwoofers are "non directional" yada, yada, yada....

for me, i can tell where the "boom" is coming from.

after all, when was the last time you went to a concert or a live musical event and when they started playing, you turn around and faced the rear?

only reason 99.99% of the subwoofers are in the rear of the vehicle is because of space issues. now i have heard 1 or 2 cars in competition that hacked the hell out of their front dash area to install a subwoofer up there. and lemme tell you, it's incredible.

now, in the car audio world, STEREO IS STILL king.

sure, you have DVDs with dolby 5.1. sure there are dvd players for the cars for years now.

problem is that multichannel hasnt made that breakthrough yet, that i would be glad enough to throw thousands of dollars for a system in either of my vehicles.

so until it is ubiqitious in the mobile environment, 2 channels is enough for me...

that is why i recommend the best and biggest speakers you can get up front and powering it with a equally great amp.

I would do Boston Acoustics in the front (L60/65's or NX67's if on a budget and Pro60's if not). I would also look into the NEW Boston Subs. The G2 10 and 12 work in really small boxes and will outperform a JLW3 with no problem at all and do it in a smaller box. There amps are very cool too but pricey. Anyway, the Boston speakers all use Neodymium magnets structures that are way small so they fit way easier. They also sound GREAT. I have the Pro60's and they rock. I also use Eclipse or Nakamichi head units when ever I want a system to sound its best. www.bostonacoustics.com

Good Luck

the problem with the boston acoustics and mb quarts are:
1) no local places carry them
2) the quart premiums are kinda over my budget although they are indeed very
nice

local places (that i know of in burnaby,BC) carry: sony, panasonic, jvc, JL audio, alpine, rockford, kicker, clarion, kenwood, pioneer

and from these choices i kinda liked the JL audio 5 1/4 for up front ($150 CDN) (they told me 6 1/2 wouldnt fit without modifications... extra modification means extra $$ ), I was initially thinking of putting some cheap alpine type-S 6 1/2 in the back (for $100 CDN) but ldivinag quickly ended that thought lol, and then I am VERY tempted by the JL audio 12W3 sub as it is available for $188 CDN with an 800W kenwood amp for $200 CDN. Since the speakers I have up front arent exactly 'high-end,' am I right in assuming a new stereo will provide enough power for them?
I know that there are many different setups out there that would sound much better.. but for the price, I THINK this is the best I can get... unfortunately price is a limiting factor. This is also why I was looking into the panasonic CQ-C3300 deck (i've attached a picture of it) since it is relatively cheap, stylish, and plays mp3/wma/cd-r/cd-rw... most other decks in this price range ($250 CDN) had the same wattage or less (50W x 4) so I figured that it would be just as good as the equivalent alpine/pioneer decks... feel free to criticize me and tell me otherwise

again, I really appreciate the suggestions and apologize for my lack of knowledge

I am looking at the polk momos but no one will give me a straight answer to if they will fit in the fronts. Its a 6.5 (mmc650). They are a nice componate speaker for the price.

Thanks for that PDF file. It did not lst the Polk Momo MMC650's, but I know they have a debth of something like 2.7, so they should be alright. I guess all I have to do is slice that ring off and be set. I found the Polk Momos for like 79 bucks plus 18 for shipping so it seems like a great componate speaker for that price.
