However I do have 2 other lines under my account that are available for upgrade and I think I just may use 1 of those accounts to get a free phone with MY phone # on it to use.
Verizon is supposedly more lax with phones that aren't theirs (as long as its CDMA of course). But, you still have to take it to the store for them to activate it and program your number in.

Depending on your taste, Motorola makes their popular phones (RAZR, KRZR, SLVR) in CDMA. If you don't like moto, LG and Samsung make a ton of cool CDMA phones - which makes sense because Korea is an all CDMA country.

Okay, before we go any further, CDMA phones don't have a locking mechanism and therefore don't need to be unlocked.

What you do need to do, though, is get your number programmed into it before you can use it. Either through going into the store, or through customer service (though you'd need to find the EIN and know how to program the number into it).

Luckily, Verizon is more likely to activate non-Verizon phones than other companies like Sprint (also CDMA).
