I've got a CDMA slvr in my pocket right now. L7C.
The CDMA version a Sprint exclusive (and on top of that a Best Buy exclusive, can't even get it at Sprint stores yet) but I've heard stories of people getting it activated on Verizon. But, unfortunately, that means you have to pay full retail price of ~$400.
Also, as far as I know, the CDMA SLDR isn't available in the States anyway. So, unless you plan on importing the phone from Korea, I wouldn't worry too much.
On the other hand, if you do plan on importing phones from Korea, Verizon is the company you want to use. Sprint won't activate them

CDMA (W-CDMA) is actually a better protocol on paper. But you're right, most of the phones suck. Most of the world uses GSM and so GSM gets more focus from cell phone companies.
