Ya I'm aware of that. Which ever laptop I choose I'm making sure it can come with XP so I know the hardware is definently compatible with Vista. I really have no intentions of using vista at all since XP is very stable and I have no reason to upgrade to the new OS anyways.

Luckily I can still purchase the laptop even though its under "small business." Apparently I may be able to buy it through work...now its time to see how much of a price different it may be when also upgrading the cpu

Just build your own PC.

I'm so over building my own PCs. It's a pain in the ***, and looking at some basic costs, getting a built PC through Dell will be about the same price as buying all the **** from Frys, but without the time effort of doing the build. I do the build stuff all day every day at work, I don't want to do it at home :|

Eh, I'm just not in to it anymore. I like doing hardware work on my servers at work, but when I get home I just want something that works. I want to play my games and get use out of it, not spend time putting it together or messing with the internal parts, etc.

Plug in. Boot up. Enjoy.

hmmm for $130 I can get the 2ghz version of that dell compared to the 1.4ghz. I probably will fork up the extra $130 just for the extra 600mhz.

Screw Fry's and their used car salespeople.

I just order all the crap online (newegg, nerds, zipzoomfly, etc.) Of course, I get a nice little discount on processors so it's worth it for me.

The only problem is that box builders usually skimp out on one or more components to make their price point.

Of course for 95% of buyers it doesn't really matter.

That's part of it but it's also that they put so much extra **** software on them that loads at boot. Wipe out the OS and reinstall with your own setup and that's 90% of the issue.

If you wanna share, that might create enough of a price difference for me to build my own...
