Okay Folks, if you or anyone you know is interested, the shell would cost me $3500 to re-acquire. The actual price for it is $1900, but then I lose the sales tax I'd collect from AAA since they wouldn't actually be buying it, which knocks my settlement from $13,500 to $9800.
For those who don't know the details, I would say it's actually worth that much if you had another shell to swap things into. Every single mechanical bit forward of about the B pillars is fine, but the left rear suspension, strut, wheel, control arms, and possibly the rear subframe, halfshaft and/or rear diff is toast. The disc brake components should be okay except the line is broken off in the caliper and the parking brake cable was yanked out. It would be a great candidate for an all-motor build or even turbo project if you wanted to take it a step farther. I have Cobb cams I would part with cheap for anyone who wanted to buy it for that purpose. Also, I would need to have cash in hand or a solid commitment by Monday afternoon, as that's when I'll be signing paperwork.

I think you should haggle with the insurance company some more. Make them give you more for the car, or sell you the car for less. Maybe consider parting the car out. If you have the space, I'm sure you could make a nice chunk of change off the car. They should let you buy it back cheaper than that if it's totaled.
Also, just a detail you may want to consider.. When a subaru gets into an accident like that, it can fry the trans instantly. Unless you were in neutral at the time of the accident, I'd say the condition of the transmission is questionable at best.

I could haggle possibly, and get maybe $1500-2000 more MAYBE, but I need to settle so I can get my replacement ASAP since I need it for work. And the actual cost to buy it from them is only $1900... but if I do, then they don't have to pay me sales tax and title fees for my replacement, which is another $1000 or so. And I don't get paid for the aftermarket parts, and my suspension isn't really salvageable. Beyond that, I don't have the space and I'm not willing to deal with trying to sell dozens of parts and deal with all the lowballers.
