Need advice picking an impreza

Ill keep it short and sweet. My price range has put me into choosing a second generation (2000-2007) impreza. I cant afford an WRX STI, so ill settle for a WRX. So with that said, i want to buy something that will be a daily driver but that over time i can buy upgrades for. From my understanding, correct me if im wrong, there are two motor sizes to choose from 2.0 and 2.5. Which do i want for performance? I just want a hobby and something i can put money into so that my car has more ***** than a civic sitting next to me at a stop light.

Welcome to the club. As I understand it the wrx sti is equipped with the 2.5 liter engine as where the wrx has the 2.0 . So if you are picking a wrx than it will come with the 2.0, a great platform for performance.

My first upgrades where:
1) Brakes: drilled brake rotors, better pads and braided lines.
2) Snorkus delete
3) Rear Sway bar. Larger diameter to help fight understear.

PS, don't race that honda next to you at a stop light. Save racing for the track.

The 2006-2007 WRX comes with the 2.5l motor as well.

All 06+ wrx's have 2.5's. 2000-2007 where diffrent generations.

00-01, RS only. No wrx or sti.
02-03, bug-eye. Came in 2.0 wrx form. No sti. Had crappy trans
04-05, blob-eye. Came in 2.0 wrx or 2.5 sti. All around pretty good cars
06-07, hawk-eye. Came in 2.5 wrx or 2.5 sti. The best performance platform in GD

you can get a very low price on a 04-05 sti, but for performance you want the bigger 2.5. if you are going on power alone the 06 wrx would be a great choice. Keep in mind that the mod bug can hit really hard and you might with you spent that eextra 5k on that sti. the trany and brembos alone make it workh it!

06-07 best GD WRX platform IMHO; 2.5l and 4 pots to name a few.

This is great information. Now the question is, is the 2.0 worth putting parts on? I might consider saving more for the sti if its not worth it to buy a 2.0

Close... '02-'07 was all one generation. Although there are some face lifts and engine upgrades, they're all still the same Chassis.

So far there have been 4 Impreza generations. '92-'01 GC/GF, '02-'07 GD/GG, '08-'11 GE/GH/GV/GR* and the '12 GP/GJ.

'05 GG still the best IMO. Although '08 GR is a very close second.

The 4 pots aren't actually significantly better although they look cool.

*The GV and GR were also produced for '12 however '11 was the last year for the the GE and GH.

It's up do you. There have been impressive builds on both platforms. If you can put away a bit more and get a STi and afford the insurance, I'd suggest doing that.
