Need help picking out springs.
Hey all, I'm new to this board, and new to the world of Subaru, I just bought a black '05 WRX this past Thursday and I freakin love the car, it's just awesome. I figure since it already has such amazing speed, I will put some engine work on the back burner for a bit, while I do some work on handling and appearance. I have been reading a bit into getting new springs, but it seems there hasn't been much said in way of the '05's, does anyone know if there is any different between the 04 and 05 suspensions? I've heard the Tein S Techs and Eibach's are good springs, I'm looking for between a 1" and 1.75" drop, nothing too drastic, just want to close that gap in the wheels a bit, and hopefully improve handling. This is a daily driver, won't be doing AutoX or dragging, might go off road sometime in the future, but for now I just want it to glide on the open road. Thanks for any help and suggestions

the Tein S drop lower and stiffer than the Tein H. Also the new 04+ Tein S drop even LOWER and STIFFER than the old Tein S for 02-03. If your looking for 1-1.75 drop the Hs are fine, also better matched if yo plan to use them on your stock struts.

general advice, if you're buying springs from japan, you will generally want to swap the front and rears. IOW, run the "front" springs in back.
The jdm cars these springs are designed for are significantly lighter in the front than the usdm cars we get, therefore there's a lot less understeer on the jdm car. With less understeer, they run stiffer rates in the front. Sine we get a lot more understeer, we actually want to stiffen the rear of the car to neutral-out the handling.
not that this actually addresses your question, though...

Ive heard that on coil-overs, that use standardized linear rate springs, but on conventional springs on our struts the fronts and rears dont swap.

Interesting info Platypus. It makes sense though as I'm sure our crash test standards dictate more metal (weight) in the front of the car. Are the WRX springs really swappable front to rear though?

They will not swap.

I have the H-tech springs and they are fine on stock struts. BTW stock usdm struts are made by KYB. After those wear out i will probably go with the KYB AGX if i don't just get coilovers. Also whomever said that you can swap front to rear: try it . It will not work. I cannot speak for the S-techs but the ride on the H-techs are great. Not bouncy at all. Feels like stock only stiffer! Good luck
