I am planning on doing Connector/FHLT Wednesday. I'll let you know how it is.

I will be going out of town to Tahoe for some snowshoeing this Saturday and won't be back until the following Saturday.

Yeah, so my wife bike-blocked me on Sunday then later in the day she told me that my gut was getting bigger and that I should ride more.

I owe you $5... so I'm back up to $35, I think.

I rode Connector/FHLT yesterday as I said I would. It was cold when I started on Connector, but warmed up pretty nicely. The trail conditions were better for the most part than when I rode last time, but not as good and when Matt, Allie, her brother and I rode.

Most of the north side was a somewhat slick thin layer of mud. Not so deep as to sling mud over all the time and not so muddy that was difficult to get traction most of the time. There where a few places that were worse than last time I rode there. One was the climb up to the road at the top of the loop and one climb about 2 miles past there. Both places I made it up the hill by sitting on the back of the seat to get max traction.

Most of the south side was pretty good except for some of the shady places. They were like the north side. Overall I thought the conditions were pretty good. You just can't go bombing into turns expecting it to be grippy. It was more likely to be a bit greasy. I had fun and I think by this weekend you guys will have improved conditions. It's sunny up here today and tomorrow is suppose to be same. That should dry things out some and you guys shoud have a great ride. Have fun while I'm gone.

Horse spooked by motorcycles at Folsom Lake dies
Illegal dirt bike riders panicked horses
By Joyia Emard, Gold Country Media News Service

Jeri Sust is shown on her horse Toby in a recent photo taken at Folsom Lake. The horse had to be euthanized after he was spooked by dirt bike riders and suffered major injuries to one of his legs while on a Folsom Lake trail.
A horse was severely injured and had to be destroyed after being spooked by motorcycles being operated illegally at Folsom Lake on Saturday, Jan. 3.

The horse was owned by Newcastle resident Jeri Sust.

According to Sust, she and Barbara Heyward, of Loomis, had trailered their horses to Sterling Point in Loomis and were riding on a Folsom Lake trail at approximately 12:30 p.m., when three unknown riders on “dirt bikes” frightened the horses.

Apparently, the horses bolted and both riders were thrown. Sust hit her head in the fall, which broke her helmet, and both women suffered bruises and possible bruised ribs.

Toby, Sust’s 4-year-old horse, suffered severe injuries to one of its legs and had to be euthanized by a veterinarian.

Richard Preston, supervising ranger at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area said, “We have a report in progress, we’re investigating and we’re working on a couple of leads.”

Preston said it is illegal to operate off road dirt bikes in any part of the park and said that lower lake levels have contributed to an increase in this type of activity.

Idiots every where. I wonder where the event happened? The tarp was right by the parking lot when we saw it. I'm guessing they hauled the horse up to there from where ever? Otherwise the "dirt bike" could have been in the parking lot and not on a trail.

Yeah I was thinking that was why the ATV on the truck was there. Helped haul the horse back to the lot.

I want to, but now my other neck/shoulder is super stiff. It started on my drive in this morning. Mostly due to stress which coincidentally no longer exists.

Can you ride Sunday instead? Either that or we wait until a little later in the day tomorrow (1PM @ Olmstead or 12PM at GB).

I'll call you in the AM. I was wanting to ride GB more than Olmstead but didn't want to wuss out on you . 12 @ GB should work. I'll probably ride out there regardless of whether or not you go, so if you're not feeling well it's no big deal.

Sunday I'm not sure on. I haven't seen Josey much this week and she's definitely going to be off. Even though I know she won't get mad at me if I go riding all day I'd like to spend some time with her. We'll go blow some money at the mall or something

Noon at my house sounds good. If I'm hurting, I'll just push through it.

I better stop drinking the wine now though...

...UNSEASONABLY WARM AND DRY WEATHER OVER THE INTERIOR OF NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA CONTINUES THIS WEEK...

VERY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL DOMINATE THE WEATHER OVER THE
INTERIOR OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND WILL CONTINUE THE UNSEASONABLY
WARM AND DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE AREA THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF
THE WEEK. HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REACH INTO THE 60S TO
MID 70S IN PARTS OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND SURROUNDING FOOTHILLS
...
AND INTO THE 40S TO LOW 60S IN THE MOUNTAINS FOR MUCH OF THIS WEEK.
A FEW LOCATIONS TIED OR ESTABLISHED RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ON
SUNDAY...AND MORE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE POSSIBLE AT SOME
LOCATIONS THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

IT WILL NOT BE UNUSUAL FOR FOOTHILL LOCATIONS TO BE WARMER
THAN THE CENTRAL VALLEY LOCATIONS FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS
DUE
TO A STRONG TEMPERATURE INVERSION...WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE
WARMING WITH HEIGHT. IN THIS WEATHER PATTERN...THE AIR TEMPERATURE
IS ACTUALLY WARMING WITH HEIGHT UP TO AROUND 4000 FEET...AND THEN
BEGINS TO COOL.

NORTHERLY WINDS WILL BLOW AT TIMES AND LIMIT THE AREAL COVERAGE OF
FOG IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY.

THE STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE HAS DEFLECTED THE JET STREAM
AND THE STORM TRACK WELL NORTHWARD INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.
THUS...DRY WEATHER WILL CONTINUE OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA DESPITE
THIS MONTH NORMALLY BEING THE WETTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR.

THE LIST BELOW INCLUDES THE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK
AHEAD AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS.

LOCATION JAN 11 JAN 12 JAN 13 JAN 14 JAN 15 JAN 16

NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET ON SUNDAY...JAN 11TH...AT RED
BLUFF AND PARADISE...BOTH 75 DEGREES. GRASS VALLEY TIED THEIR RECORD
HIGH TEMPERATURE AND REDDING FELL JUST ONE DEGREE SHORT.
Nice!

That means the trails will be nice to ride this week. I may have to hit up Olmstead or FDLT Wednesday.
