On typical "group drives" people tend to chase each other through a lot of the best scenery, and unless your leader has the eye for locations and makes a point of stopping, you miss a lot of them.

My preferred type of "rally" would include a few paved sections where we'd be timing each other (attempting to hit ideal arrival times at legal speeds), but then giving lots of time for the unpaved- where you guys could go ahead and find good photo locations.

With the emphasis on taking pictures, the "rally" portion would be only just to keep things a little bit interesting on the transits without having people flying around on each others bumpers.

+1 for me... but I don't wanna go too off road since my camera will be in the car, and those damn camera and lens cost a lot...

How about a week from tomorrow? Sunday, December 21st. We meet in Santa Rosa, take a nice drive up to Hopland, then hit our first dirt road heading into Lake County.

Fuel up in Lakeport, head on across the lake to some other dirt roads - either Cow Mountain Recreation Area or Bartlett Springs area. There's an abandoned Hot Springs resort back in the woods there...somewhere. Small resort, but good for abandoned building shooting...
