Do you like to drive on dirt roads?

Would you be interested in spending a weekend exploring dirt roads itn the wilds of Northern Cal, but not so sure you are up for one of my rallies?

Or maybe you really wanted to run the rally but have other obligations that weekend?

I need workers and pre-checkers for Golden West and pre-checks need to happen over the next few weeks, as the rally itself is only a little more than a month away.

The first trip will be this weekend, I'll be leaving the bay area as early as I can, spending Saturday at a motel in Yreka and returning Sunday night.

While up there, we'll be driving about 350-400 miles mostly on unpaved forest roads, its particularly useful if people who can work the rally participate in the pre-checks so they learn the layout of the course and checkpoint locations.

Come up and explore this amazing part of the state, you'll probably wind up having so much fun you will want to came back and work the rally.

As an added incentive I'm considering free entry next year for anyone when they work checkpoints for the rally itself.

damn, sounds like this could be fun!

I am actually going to be in weaverville from Friday to sunday. How far is the area from there that the roads need scouting?

My car is on 17" and is lowered with Eibach pro kit springs, will that be an issue?

Probably not a problem as I'm really trying to stick to smoother roads this year, although it somewhat depends on how far lowered you are.

And you'd probably be a little more likely to get a flat than on a regular road trip, so the 17's might not be your best option either, but a few cars survived last years rally on 17's

311 miles from SF to Yreka(not Eureka like I originally thought, hehe).

I am still down to go though Pete, my girlfriends mom lives in weaverville, she likes to go up there about once a month so I could probably participate in running the event.

Stock WRX with RE92's should survive OK although bald RE92's may not fair so well, and make sure they are pumped up!

And here's the basic schedule- both for pre-checks and the rally, out of Yreka:

Saturday Noon til dinner time- out east on the flanks of MT Shasta and around the Medicine Lake Lava flows.

After dinner- some roads to the west of town

Sunday- more to the west above the Klamath River, with plenty of time to get back to the Bay Area.

Pre-check weekends will be this weekend, the 2,3 of July and probably the 9-10 as well.
The Rally itself is July 23,24.

If you come out for one of the pre-check's you can't compete this year, but it'd be great if you can work controls on the weekend of the rally.

Otherwise just consider it a fun weekend road trip.

If Greg didn't have to work this weekend, we'd be so down for this... We might still go on one of the later dates.

Looks like you guys might run into some interesting weather up there with the snow level lowering down to 4500 feet by tomorrow...

Yeah this trip might be a waste, I really thought waiting until nearly the end of July would give me a chance to get the thing written but its gonna be tight

Hey Pete,

Only just spotted this thread, so obvioulsy missed helping this w/e. I can help the first w/e in July if need be. Could we carpool - or would I need to rent a car for that w/e? I've already got a rental lined up for the rally w/e.
