Any dirt roads around Sac?
Any dirt roads around Sac?
When I live down by LA, we use to find all these little dirt roads by Palmdale and just drive and camp for a whole weekend. It's nice to have a friend with a 4X4 and tow straps. Any public dirt roads near Sac? I've been to the offroad park in Praire City, but the trails there are mainly for bikes and serious offroad vehicles.

I don't know of any. You might not find that many of those types of roads around Sac itself - just construction sites and farm land. Look up in Auburn/Grass Valley/Nevada City area and you'll probably find some.

hello!
anyone forget about South Shingle from Latrobe to Rancho Murieta or Michigan Bar or any of the other roads that it connects to....
miles of dirt road...lots of washboard, gravel, good wruts, few dry creek crossings...
very dusty though...and some of the creekbeds are steep & a little hairy...you just have to make sure you slow enough.
and one creek crossing is not doable about 9 months out of the year unless you have your intake snorkled (ala Africa Rally style up the A-pillar) because it is normally a fairly wide & deep creek.
you have to watch for drunk H/S kids in thier mom's Wranglers "offroading" and every so often...
if you cause too much ruckus, a rancher will call a Sherriff out there...
but i've only seen one out there ever.
i'll try to find a map.
also there is the Off Highway Vehicle roads from Georgetown to Forbay Rd In Pollock Pines...but I do not recommend those unless you have an offroad GPS or a really well mapped road map and a CB radio because there is miles of loose gravel roads that loop around and double back time after time...it's easy to get lost back in there...and there is no outside contact for MILES!
the roads are great though for drifty gravel battles...
they're all cut flat and wide (so two logging trucks could pass each other) and heavily graveled to make it easy to pitch it...
but make sure to have your heavy duty mud flaps...cuz you'll dent something good if you don't.

Thanks N600, hope you find that map. With all this rain these days, I'm sure a snorkel would be mandatory. Those things are great, I've gone through 4 feet high rivers in costa rica in a beat up RAV4 once, but that's another story.
Yeah dont dtry to four wheel thru dirt lots on Watt ave. Last year I saw a silver wrx stuck in the middle of an unimproved lot near Watt and Fair Oaks, are you on here. What were you thinking.
map for S. Shingle/Latrobe Rd

Map of:
Latrobe Rd At S Shingle Rd, Latrobe, CA 95682
the road names are all screwed up out there...
but basically take US50 east to EDH/Latrobe, Exit Latrobe South (31A?)
go past the business park, through the small twisties about 9-10 miles...
(good twistie paved road BTW)
come to a straight after going over old R/R tracks...
there is a group of buildings on your right at an intersection (no stopsign)
that is South Shingle Rd. (red star on map)
turn Right...
it's paved for about 2 miles...past the school it's gravel.
you'll go down into a valley, then back over the crest of a hill, once on the other side... you're pretty much clear of all the nearby houses and you can let it rip!
you can try to go as far as you can on S. Shingle/Latrobe Rd. if the creek is small...
cross it and come out at Scott Rd/Sloughhouse then you cn take Scott Rd back to White Rock, or Sloughhouse and come out by Rancho Mureita,
or if the creek is too high, just turn around and head back.
you can take a Rt on the way back on Michigan bar rd and come out east of Rancho Murieta on Jackson Hwy, but after the bridge, you have to drive straight through a farm (literally) which i would think would make the ranchers know what you're up to.
there is a lot of open straights that you can get up to some good speeds, so be careful!
there is wruts that can grab your tires, and at 45-60 MPH that can be no good!
i suggest scoping it at least once at a slower pace, and find a few sweet spots to "play" on.
if you have more than one person it's good to have a pair of Motorola CBs and a spotter on some of the blind turns, cuz there is jeepers out there every so often.
be safe, but have fun...
don't make it a regular spot...cuz the ranchers have been known to close it down with Sheriffs...so don't ruin a good thing. I'll prolly be lynched by anyone in the know for this spot for making it "public" but it just cries out for Subarus.
i always thought it would be a great place to hold a leg of a SCCA rally.

Thanks guys, don't worry, I never go flat out or anything on dirt unless it's completely wide open, and even then I don't push it too much. It's one thing to be in a rally w/ full ambulance support and help, it's another when you're by yourself. I'll keep the ruckus level to a minimum(0) when I'm out there, no need to mess it up for everyone else. Anyways, my blowing up home appliance w/ a shotgun in the desert days are long gone (abandon toilet versus 10 gauge slug, toilet losses)

flipped cars, refrigerators, washer/dryers that have been spraypainted, burned, shot full of holes, etc...
secluded valley w/ no supervision...
kids can only think; perfect place for a dirt-boy party.
