LED lighting (no, not ricer underbody lights!)

THIS IS NOT ABOUT TACKY UNDERBODY/"BUDGET NEON" LEDs!

Sorry to shout, just wanted to make certain no one was mistaken about my topic!

Quite a few cars are rolling off the line (including Infiniti, GM and BMW models) with LED-based tail lights, stop lights (Dole lights) and flashers; LEDs have some excellent characteristics, among them low heat, LOONG life (100,000hrs!) and very low voltage requirements. I've found a few pages about LED replacement bulbs, and I was just curious if anyone here had experimented with replacing minor lights (tail lights, interior lights, etc) with LED bulbs...

For instance, like these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm

I've got a 16-LED white flashlight which runs on two Lithium batteries, and that sucker is BRIGHT; the light is blue-white and looks remarkably just like Xenon lights in color. I don't think it will be very long before they can develop LED lights bright enough to replace fogs or even low beams. Anyway, any experience with LED lighting besides dashboard backlight mods?

im working on a design right now.
i took apart a bicycle head light that has 5 led connected to a board. they light up white and the sucker is pretty bright. hopefully i can figure something out to get it to fit and work w/ the tail lights.
i saw that Catz sold some led replacemet bulbs for regular lights.

i think one of the inifiniti models uses like six or seven very larger LEDs for its low beams, or they are just a bunch of small focusing lenses, i think its like the Q45 or something like that, its the top of the line one i believe. but i could be wrong, so yea

I replaced my brake lights and blinkers and running lights with leds. everything is cool except after replacing the brake lights the abs and cruise control don't work and you get a CEL.

do a search and you'll see my old thread on leds.

something bothers me about the site you linked to tho. The prices are really cheap compared to any other leds intended for cars. They also mention on the front page that their leds are not very bright. Makes me think that these may be cheap and dangerous.

The leds I used for my car were about $25 each and are very very bright (brighter than incondescents at night).

I agree, their prices are really cheap. I think I'll go to an actual shop here in town and see what they think.

BTW, the site DOES sell resistor kits/ballasts that are supposed to solve that voltage problem. The LEDs draw very little current as compared to bulbs, which throws your entire car's electrical impedence off. You have to add ballasts to "fake" the LEDs drawing as much current as a normal bulb would.
