Question Your assistance please

***sometime a bit sticky getting into gear***

Question: has anyone used GM synchro mesh before? I bought MT-90 Redline gear oil and i am planning on mixing GM's SM, however i am wondering what is the best way of doing this. thanks in advance.

I hear the GM Synchromesh works great, but technically using a non GL-5 gear oil means a little more gear wear. I believe the GL-5 has more Extreme Pressure additives that is needed for the hypoid front diff.

It's been a long debate to if it does any harm.. *shrug*

I suggest maybe trying a little?

it is normal, even more so with a short shifter. bring your car out to the meet and we can look at it. otherwise i would say welcome to subaru.

you could search synchromesh it's been talked about before.

GL-5 is the fluid rating that your transmission needs. I believe GM Synchromesh is GL-4 FWICR that is why caterpill said it will cause more wear on your gears.

I HAVE gm SYNCHROMESH. it works well, got rid of my inability to locate 3rd and 4th gear. generally subaru is notorious for that 1st gear lockout. try rev matching. a good gear fluid works well. some have used redline shock-something gear oil as well. i like the gm synchro myself

kolohe soljah,

I think running gm synchromesh should be fine regardless if it's not gl-5. Just make sure you run a mixture that's not all synthetic and hopefully it will cure it, not fix it. I suggest running the following:

1 qt gm synchromesh
1 qt redline MT-90
1.7 qt of cheap 75w-90

total of 3.7 qts stated in the 02-03 subaru owners manual.

i have royal purple in my 2nd transmission....*broke the first one* i think it broke cause it had low fluid level from the factory...... cause when i took out the trans alittle bit of oil when i drained it(probably a quart oil came out) but anyways the royal purple did some justice for that problem for my car.

MMMMM, sounds like a delicious cocktail. I have a similar mix, 1 qt GM the rest was a mix of cheaper stuff.
